Colonial CC

Quick Quotes

Q. Brian, 4-under 66. Second in approach right now, fourth in proximity to the hole so just talk a little bit about your round and about your ball striking?

BRIAN HARMAN: Yeah, I've been striking it really nice this week. I thought I was in a little better shape than I was at the PGA, just wasn't striking the ball as well as I wanted to. Really felt like I kind of let one slip that week. It was a good golf course and I felt like if I would have had a little sharper game I could have made some noise there. So I had a week at home to think about it and glad that kind of what I've been touching on is showing its head a little bit this week.

Q. This will be 11 or 12 straight made cuts for you, but I know not quite the finishes that you're looking for. What's your mindset right now?

BRIAN HARMAN: Yeah, it's been a really frustrating year, to be perfectly frank. I've shot some really low scores, just haven't finished a golf tournament off. Just haven't played a solid 72 holes. Hopefully it changes this week, but just got to do your best and kind of see what happens.

Q. If it does change this week it's at a golf course that I know you really like?

BRIAN HARMAN: Yeah, I love it here. I love Texas. I love playing here. I love the weather. Even when it's hot and humid, that's pretty comfortable with where I'm from.

Q. 13 starts here, this is your 14th. Two missed cuts. A couple inside the top 10. What about this place suits you?

BRIAN HARMAN: Yeah, it's a thinking man's course. You've got to be really strategic off the tee. You can't just get up there and blast it wherever. It seems like a lot of places we play now are kind of heading that way. It doesn't usually take a super low score to win. 3-, 4-, 5-under par feels like a really good round of golf here. I don't know, it just kind seems like the way that golf ought to be, in my naive opinion, I guess. You know, to play a course where you go out and play a good round of golf and shoot 3-under.

Q. In this age of speed and power, how hard is it to maintain that kind of discipline and restraint?

BRIAN HARMAN: Yeah, I think everyone would love to hit it further. I know I would. But I don't necessarily think it's in the cards for me I'm 5'-7", 160 pounds, and I never really trained to hit it far. In my era we didn't really train for that. As kids we were trying to get our short games better. I don't think anyone saw the distance thing coming back then. But you just do your best. I mean, I am who I am, I play my game and try to lean on my strengths, and when the course is right and the conditions are right, I can be a real problem.

Q. Was there a noticeable difference in the way the course played from yesterday?

BRIAN HARMAN: No, not really.

Q. Still soft?

BRIAN HARMAN: Nothing -- no, I mean, it's drying up just like it probably did a little bit yesterday afternoon. The fairways will get firm and these fairways will get tougher to hit and that's how this place protects itself.

Q. If there is such a thing, what is the single most important shot to have on this golf course?

BRIAN HARMAN: Single most? I mean, you got to have a bunch. I don't think there is a single one. You got to be able to work it both ways off the tee to hold fairways. You got to be able to hit some low ones, hit some high ones. It tests your whole bag. So you got to have everything going on all cylinders this week.
