Quick Quotes
Q. All right, joining us after the first round of the ShopRite LPGA powered by Wakefern is Arpichaya Yubol. You had a great round today. You got on a streak of four birdies in a row. Can you just kind of talk us through that streak and kind of your round as a whole and what was going well?
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: All right, I think today I'm going to play like consistent game for me, like try to make the ball like on the fairway and then give me a chance to make birdie.
So kind of stuck a little bit on like first five hole. Like, you know, the wind is start. It's different from the practice round and they put the pin -- like it's not easy for the first round.
So try keep the ball on the green and then try to make a putt. It's not work until like hole -- I think it start on hole 18, yeah. I'm start on 10, yeah, so the first birdie start on 18. It's look like my putter is wake up, and then after that like I make like four birdie in the row.
And then, yeah.
Q. Yeah, you hit every single one of your fairways today. Do you feel like off the tee is one of your strengths right now?
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: So I do the drill a little bit with my father, so it's kind of hard for me. Sometime I'm not confident a little bit. It's better than you don't have like don't do anything. Like so like last two week in Kroger, so my ball like all the way to the left, and then this week I'm try to change to the ball to the right.
So it's too hard for me because I don't like to see my ball go to the right, right, and then when the wind off to the left that too hard for me. So sometime I just keep control my driver on the fairway more than hit like superpower ball, yeah.
Q. And then same thing, you had only 27 putts today and not a single three-putt. You said your putter got hot during the birdie streak. Is putting a strength of yours, or do you think you were just on fire today?
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: After Kroger, again, so I have a bigger problem with the driver and putter. After that I have one week off so I'm work a lot with my putter. Yeah, it's look like it's work. Like it's coming back a little bit.
And then I'm sure I'm pretty good with the good like read the line. I'm confident for my line, like with the putt. But sometime like speed, it not match with the line like you want to go. I'm work a lot on that, and yeah, it's work. Especially this week the green is special a little bit, like, you know (laughter.)
Q. Yeah.
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: Yeah.
Q. Was the off week work just drills and practice, or did you make any changes with your putter specifically?
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: Yeah, yes.
Q. Just drills?
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: Yes, just drill, you know, like on the course you can putt only one time, so the best thing to do like I have to find like different line from between five to ten feet a lot with my dad and then we just try to make like one putt every time.
And now I know. Today's work, yeah.
Q. What does that feel like when you get on a streak of a couple birdies in a row? You know, what does that feel like when you're on a good streak like that?
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: Sorry, again? Give me like...
Q. When you make a couple birdies in a row, what does that do for your confidence? How do you feel emotionally when you're on a hot streak like that?
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: Oh, okay. So after I make the birdie on hole 18 and I'm go to start on the hole 1 again, so it's look like, okay, maybe I have the good line. Like I read the good line already, and then my speed is coming back. It's look like it's work.
So I just keep roll the ball on the same thing what I see on the green, and then, you know, this week green special so you have to trust it. So if not work, just keep the ball on the good speed and just make easy par. Don't be aggressive too much.
You know, it's not easy to come back to make a par sometime, and then, yeah, today work on me, yeah.
Q. You finished second in Mexico. What can you take from that weekend that maybe can help you today or tomorrow and Sunday as we go forward here?
ARPICHAYA YUBOL: I think that it's going to be help me a lot. So I know now like how to play like when I'm score like by like the top score. So it's golf. Every day it's different. You know, especially ShopRite. I'm always doing good on the first round and then sometime the second round is not work on me.
So but by this year I think I have to think the new thing. Just keep focus on my game. Don't think about a lot of the score, and then just try to enjoy I think the big crowd today. Like many people come to watching that's interesting.
And then tomorrow said today is going to be like more people, right? It's going to be excited for me. That's fun.
But you have to play so just play on your game and then just enjoy like on your round, yeah.
