THE CJ CUP BYRON NELSON

May 21, 2026

Emiliano Grillo

McKinney, Texas, USA

TPC Craig Ranch

Quick Quotes

Q. 7-under 64. Looked pretty flawless that round. How would you describe it?

EMILIANO GRILLO: I wish -- I left a few out there, like every day, but it was a good round. I was able to kind of close it out. I was kind of -- a little bogey on 16. Good putt on 17 for par, and then a good long range putt on 18 for a cherry on top.

Q. You shot 64 here before, one of the two times you played here. How different was this round to that 64, and can you compare them given the course's difference?

EMILIANO GRILLO: Essentially the golf course plays the same. They just changed the greens. Once you're on the tee, the tee shots are the same, same line, same tee shots. Maybe a little different on 18. But besides that, it's pretty straightforward off the tee.

Then you got to be very careful on the second shot, keep it on the right side of the green, and be smart. There's a lot of new undulations, a lot of big movements on the greens. Sometimes it's better to be a little bit off the green -- it's better to be a little bit more aggressive and maybe be a little off the green.

Sometimes if you just miss it like 10, 12 feet on the correct side, then it goes another 20, 40 feet away. Just got to be smart from the fairway.

Q. What was the standout part of your game today, do you feel?

EMILIANO GRILLO: I would say everything was fine. Hit a bunch of fairways. I hit it very close with the wedges, and I was able to make the putts. That's kind of what you dream out here.

Q. Would you say the course changes are for the better, or is it too early to tell yet?

EMILIANO GRILLO: No comment.

Q. It's been a strange season for you, Emiliano. You had a top 10 at Valspar, but the rest of the season looks so-so for you. What's the process been like this season?

EMILIANO GRILLO: I've learned after 10, 15 years as a pro, you just got to keep going, keep grinding. You never know when you're going to play well. Sometimes you do know, sometimes you know that you're going to play bad. You've got to take it on, keep practicing, and just trust the process.

It sounds a little old, but there's no secrets.

Q. Did you kind of feel like a round like this was coming to you?

EMILIANO GRILLO: I played well. I played decent. I shot 2-over par on Friday last week at PGA. It wasn't that far off. I almost got it to under par at a point and then a couple bogeys coming in.

It's a hard golf course, but I felt like I hit it well. I putted okay on my start lines and decided to go back to my old putter. That's kind of like all love. When you look down and and you like what you're seeing, it's always for the best.

Q. Do you like playing in Texas, or it's just a coincidence that you won down the road here?

EMILIANO GRILLO: Yeah, I'm not a big fan of cold weather. Usually when we come here to Texas, it starts getting warmer. Maybe it's best thing, or what I enjoy the most of coming to Texas. Obviously I've done well in Fort Worth. I don't think I've particularly done well out here.

When they change the golf courses and it's a place that you haven't done well, you kind of look forward to a fresh start and maybe find something.
