THE CJ CUP BYRON NELSON

May 21, 2026

Keith Mitchell

McKinney, Texas, USA

TPC Craig Ranch

Quick Quotes

Q. First round 64. How would you assess your round?

KEITH MITCHELL: Pretty well. Really only made one mistake on No. 11. Outside of that, it was pretty solid. Whenever you only make one true mistake on the golf course, you're going to have a great day.

Pleased with that. If I can continue limiting those, I think it will be a good week. It's just you're able to place the ball around the greens if you miss it, so a lot of up-and-downs that might be more difficult on a normal week are playing a little bit easier.

Q. Didn't play last year, but course is a little bit different from the last time you played. What have you seen from the renovations and how the course has changed?

KEITH MITCHELL: More difficult off the tee and more slope on the greens. Unfortunately, the weather is not showing that right now, simply because guys are still shooting low scores because it's soft. It's in great shape. The greens are really running true.

If it was firm and fast, it would definitely be playing much more difficult, and you'd be able to see a lot more of the changes. But when you give PGA TOUR players a chance to place the ball around the greens, they're going to take advantage of that.

Q. What's that like entering the week where Tuesday was kind of rainy, not as much like prep time maybe as players would have normally wanted coming into Thursday's first round?

KEITH MITCHELL: The weather is definitely a dice roll this week. We had some delays on Tuesday, thought today might be a complete washout. Looking good so far, so fingers crossed we can get it all in.

The weekend, you never know. It could get bad. It could be fine. We just try to keep a level head and know that we might have to adjust some of our schedules throughout the week.

Q. We're almost hitting that midway point. How would you kind of assess the season so far? Where are you feeling most confident in your game?

KEITH MITCHELL: Okay season. I've had some good finishes, felt pretty good about my game, made a bunch of cuts. Just haven't really contended on the weekend, maybe once or twice. Really just want to put four rounds together.

Feel solid about where my game is physically. If I can just give it a push on Saturday and Sunday, I think that's really the improvement I would like to see the rest of the year.
