THE CJ CUP BYRON NELSON

May 21, 2026

Scottie Scheffler

McKinney, Texas, USA

TPC Craig Ranch

Quick Quotes

Q. Opening round 66. How would you assess your first round?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I felt like I was pretty close. I did some good stuff. I felt I was a little short with my irons, making myself a few more looks. It's just a matter of getting closer and holing a few more putts. Overall I felt like I did some good stuff, just keeping it closer and holing a few more putts. But overall, did a lot of good things.

Q. What do we see from the course? How is it holding up with the rain? What do we expect tomorrow?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: We'll see how much we get this afternoon and tomorrow night. Overall, fairways seem to be draining fairly well. Greens are still a little bit soft. Yeah, we'll see what happens with what's coming.

Q. Fun group with Si Woo and Brooks going low. Was it almost kind of like match play style, seeing everyone birdie for birdie?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I felt like I was getting lapped out there for a little bit. So I was fortunate to make a couple birdies late in the round and keep myself in the tournament. I feel like sometimes in these tests, once you start getting behind, you can kind of start falling pretty far behind, and it can be difficult to catch up. It was nice to kind of stay in it.

Overall, it was a fun group. We had good momentum in the group the whole day. Like you said, Brooks played great, and Si Woo played really nice as well. Hopefully more of that the next couple days.

Q. Final one, how is it that you stay kind of patient to make sure staying in there to match it birdie for birdie?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, it's still early in the tournament. It's still golf, you can't force it. Worst thing you could do is kind of make a sloppy bogey and give up a shot trying to force one in there. So just kind of choose your spots and see what you can do.
