Quick Quotes
Q. Congratulations, guys. Semifinals, does this exceed all your expectations?
GRADY BRAME JR: No, not necessarily. We had pretty high expectations going in. You know, we feel very comfortable playing as a team, and so, you know, it has been a lot of fun.
But we're hoping to continue that stretch.
Q. You guys met as teammates at Southeast Louisiana?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Yes.
GRADY BRAME JR: That's correct.
Q. Because you're from Scotland, correct?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Yes, Scotland originally. I got recruited to come play. Grady was on the team.
Q. Okay.
LAWRENCE ALLAN: His parents and family pretty much took me in and made me one of their own and I never left.
Q. Have you guys always been four-ball partners then?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: This might be the first event we played as four-ball.
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah. Now, we play in our home course and team up.
Q. Okay.
GRADY BRAME JR: But as far as tournaments go, this is the first one we played together.
Q. So what clicked today? What was the difference in this one?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: This one.
Q. This guy?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: He was really good this morning. Really, really good. Anything he had to make, a putt and clutch shot, he did. Without him I would've been beat 5&4 this morning. Was incredible.
GRADY BRAME JR: And vice versa on this afternoon.
Q. So it's nice teammates.
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah.
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Yeah, we complement each other quite a bit.
GRADY BRAME JR: Right.
Q. And you're coaching now, the team?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Yes, I did some mini tour stuff.
Q. How long?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Four, five years.
Q. In the States?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Yep. Mixture. I went home for a while, played some mini tour stuff over in Britain, and came back here and played. Then this job sort of fell in my lap and I grabbed it with both hands.
Q. So any coaching experience before?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Uh-uh, no. I went straight from mini tours to head coach.
Q. When did you take over as coach?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: August 2022.
Q. Okay.
LAWRENCE ALLAN: So...
Q. Grady, what do you do?
GRADY BRAME JR: I'm in commercial insurance. I work with J. Gallagher.
Q. I know your dad was a pretty good player. He played on a bunch of --
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah, he's actually at the Senior Trans-Miss right now over in Palm Springs, so he's a player. Always has been.
Q. And this is obviously the farthest you guys ever got in a USGA Championship, correct?
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah, that's correct. This is our first opportunity being able to play the four-ball.
Q. Yeah.
GRADY BRAME JR: But, yeah, that is --
Q. What about other stuff? What's your best finish?
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah, so I've played two other U.S. Amateurs. Haven't made the cut on either of them.
Q. And you?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: This is my first USGA event.
Q. First one. What about R&A stuff? Probably played some R&A.
LAWRENCE ALLAN: I played some British Ams and made the cut once at British Am. I remember one 18-hole match at the British Am when it was in Wales somewhere.
I can't remember if it was a playoff or round one, whatever it was. This is by far the farthest.
Q. Two guys from Wales in the semifinals as well.
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah, we were good friends with Jonathan Bale.
Q. Because he played Louisiana Tech?
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah, and lived in Baton Rouge for a while, so we played a lot of golf with him.
Q. What's the goal for tomorrow? I mean, what's the plan tonight? Probably just want to get some rest, huh?
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah, just some rest. We been doing a lot of really good stuff. We've done a really good job underreacting to any situation that we have had thrown our way. If we continue to do that, I think we'll be fine.
Q. Did you guys knock of the Drews?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Yes, we did.
Q. So that was a pretty big win. Knock off the local guys. Pretty big following out here.
GRADY BRAME JR: Great players. We were lucky enough to get through, and it's been a fun week.
Q. You guys are the same age about?
GRADY BRAME JR: Yeah, one year difference.
Q. How often do you get back to Scotland?
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Once, twice a year. All my family is still there so I try and go home.
Q. Where do you play there?
JONATHAN BALE: Home course is Alva Golf Club, which is a tiny little town, nine-hole course. But it's home.
Q. Yeah. Scotland has a lot of those little hidden gems that most people don't know about.
LAWRENCE ALLAN: Yeah, for sure.
