Issa Nlareb a Amang

Newport, Wales, UK

Quick Quotes

Q. Second place. You'll be disappointed, but are you also proud of the way you played this week?

ISSA NLAREB A AMANG: The way I played this week, I was unlucky. It was not my week.. It was supposed to be three in a row wins for me, but I failed the goal.

Today with the rain, the cold, I couldn't feel my fingers. I couldn't feel my feet. I felt very cold on the golf course, but I tried to manage, and I was unlucky because I had a lot of putts near the hole or round it. I made a lot of three-putts.

Even when I got the eagle 2 on hole 17 I wanted to push on, but I couldn't putt today. So that's the game of the golf. You can hit the ball far away, but if your short game is not there you are in trouble.

Simon in front of me was so solid, he didn't miss any putts. He was playing so well with his putting. So I think it was the putter that beat me today.

Q. 17, did you chip in, or did you hole a putt?

ISSA NLAREB A AMANG: I got a 9-iron and I pitched and run and the ball finished in the hole.

Q. How far?

ISSA NLAREB A AMANG: Was 35 metres.

Q. So 50 yards?

ISSA NLAREB A AMANG: Yeah, about 40 yards. But on the tee box I wasn't happy because on hole 16 I three-putted on the green. I was nine feet on the green to the flag, and I three-putted. So I was like, 'oh, you don't get to use your putter today'. Just hit it on the green, push it anywhere!

Right on 17 I get my driver, it was a big drive, and I chipped it in. I was like, okay, I get it. My putter didn't work today.

All my shots, every one was good. I didn't miss the green one time, but I three-putted..

Q. Big crowd on 18. You must feel to enjoy moments like that when you're challenging to win a game. Did it feel special even just challenging for the big win?

ISSA NLAREB A AMANG: Yeah, I'm happy. I'm happy they organised a big event like this one, in this place, and hole 18 had a lot of people. It was amazing to be here, amazing stuff the organisers do.

So to bring a lot of people in one house like they did was wonderful for me. I'm happy to participate, and on hole 18, I was trying to say, 'okay, tap the putt for birdie and put Simon under pressure.' My head was not about the people around me. My head was all in the game.

The only problem was my putting. I would say, okay, it's very cold for me. I don't feel my fingers. But that's not the reason. I'm a professional. I'm supposed to get two-putt, two-putt, two-putt. Even 36 putts for today would be good. I'm over, I'm like 40 putts a round.

Q. You think 40 putts today?

ISSA NLAREB A AMANG: Yes. Yesterday I shoot two under. I shoot 30 putts yesterday, and today I'm over.
