Quick Quotes
Q. Okay, Emma, Madison, for you two, so Emma, we'll start with you, just talk about the round today and then I'll ask Madison the same question. The round today and just the atmosphere with all -- with the city kind of supporting you two and the fellow Musketeers with you today.
EMMA McMYLER: Yeah, it was a pretty scrappy round for me today. Didn't have my best stuff, but was hitting the ball really well and was able to score pretty well.
So it was awesome to have like the support of the city and support of the Xavier fans. Heard a lot of, go Xs out there, so it was really fun and really enjoyed the round. Happy to finish off with a grindy par on the last hole.
Q. Madison, same question.
MADISON REEMSNYDER: For me it was nice to have that first round under my belt. I felt more comfortable out there today knowing the greens and just the environment with everyone out there.
And like Emma said, a lot of community out there, a lot of Xavier gear, a lot of, go Xs, and it was great.
Q. First tee shot today compared to yesterday, was it completely different? Similar?
MADISON REEMSNYDER: I would say it was similar. I was still nervous, but it was a different hole, so kind of approached it a little differently. And we tee'd off in the afternoon, so it was a little different vibe.
Q. Having you two playing together, you were teammates in school. Talk about that comfort level of you two playing together and walking the fairways together the first two days?
EMMA McMYLER: Yeah, it was awesome to play with Maddie. Hadn't played with her for a little while, so it was great to have a fellow friend playing my tee time with.
She played great out there. I know for her first start she did amazing, and I hope she enjoyed every second of it because not many people get to do this. She should be proud of her performance.
MADISON REEMSNYDER: Thank you. Yeah, playing with Emma was so awesome. It was comforting, especially in my first LPGA event. I've always looked up to her, so seeing how she navigates the course, how she approaches it, it was awesome just seeing her play as well.
Q. So my first question is actually just for Emma. Have you given her any advice before going out or even during the playing time the past few days?
EMMA McMYLER: Yeah, gave her some advice to just enjoy the experience of it because it's a pretty unique experience. Not a lot of people get do it. So just knowing she belongs out here, she earned her spot to be here, and that she should just enjoy everything that comes with this week.
Q. Madison, you've had a pretty busy week this week. Kind of talk me through how you switched mindsets from playing and then coming here and playing for the LPGA your first time.
MADISON REEMSNYDER: Yeah, at the start of this week I was very focused on regionals and only regionals because our goal was to get out. Playing on the team in the collegiate environment is a little bit different.
So then when I came here I was kind of focused more on my individual game and just approaching the course how I would.
But, yeah, I could tell I was getting a little tired. This was my sixth 18 round this week in a row. I was just talking with Darrelyn my caddie this week and just trying to have fun.
Q. What's that like having your like teammates be your caddie, walk along with you, cheering you on?
MADISON REEMSNYDER: It was so awesome. I knew that I wanted someone that would calm me down and comfort me, and having Darrelyn on the bag, she also knows this course just as well. So having a caddie that knows me well and knows this course was really key for me in my first event.
Q. So for both of you, it's been a long week. Kind of is there anything, like hype song or any routine you guys have that got you in that mindset?
EMMA McMYLER: Sorry, can you say that again?
Q. Is there anything that got you into the right mindset for this week, especially since it's Cincinnati so you knew a lot of people would be familiar with you guys?
EMMA McMYLER: I think for me it was just important to go back to my game plan and know it's just golf at the end of the day. It's my job. So just focusing on myself and knowing that the extra support is deserved. We have earned that support.
It's because everyone believes in us, so just treating it like any other event and just trying to have fun.
MADISON REEMSNYDER: For me, I think it was the community and all my friends and family that came out. Just seeing them along the ropes it was -- it really calmed me down and kept me in my zone.
Q. So did you feel calm when they'd shout, let's go X, or did you get a rush of adrenaline?
MADISON REEMSNYDER: I would say both. Like I love hearing, let's go, X, but it's also like, whoa, there is a lot of people out here cheering. So both.
Q. For both of you guys, you guys are both -- have a lot of awards with the Big East and through Xavier. Can you speak to Xavier's golf program a little bit?
EMMA McMYLER: For me I think it just speaks to the work that the coach whenever I was here, Breanna Jenco put in. She really built this program from the ground up and had a lot of recruits come in that were having the same mindset and really goal-oriented to kind of win Big East championships, get to regionals, and hopefully eventually one of these teams can get out of the regionals and make it to nationals as a team.
But, yeah, it shows the ethics and the hard work that we have as the program, and I know that the coach now will continue to do so.
MADISON REEMSNYDER: Yeah, I think over the course of however many years we keep climbing and we keep getting closer to nationals and our ranking keeps dropping. So I think it is the recruits and it is the culture that we have. We're very disciplined and we support each other, but we also have a lot of fun.
So it's a great balance, and all of us, we just have a great time.
Q. Kind of speaking to that great time, is there anything that if you've missed anything or you are going to miss?
MADISON REEMSNYDER: I think going out to eat. Just hanging out really. We practice and we're in the zone here at Mak and while we're at tournaments, but being away from golf is the most fun part. They're my best friends. Since we are college athletes it's hard to branch out and spend time with other people who have different schedules, so we are together so much so they're my best friends and I'll miss that is the most.
EMMA McMYLER: Looking back on college the thing I probably miss the most is just having that teammates, having that team atmosphere. When you're out on the road as a pro it's only you.
So I kind of miss that team aspect. And like Maddie said, the dinners are what makes it the most fun. Like after rounds just going to dinner together or having meals and just spending the time with the teammates that you know love you and you love them.
Q. Is there favorite spot that you had going with your team here in Cincinnati?
MADISON REEMSNYDER: I mean, Chik-fil-A. It's not like a dinner-dinner spot, but we are there all the time.
EMMA McMYLER: Usually something quick because we're finishing up late after rounds.
