Quick Quotes
Q. All right, here with Jodi after the second round at the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G. First things first, obviously going to bring up No. 12. Walk us through what was going on in your head when it was in the air when you saw it land short and all the emotions.
JODI EWART SHADOFF: It's funny because we were stood on the 11th green and I said to my caddie, like I have no idea how I'm going to get it close on the next tee shot. He was like, well, you can just hit the pin.
We laughed it off, and I hit really, really good shot. It landed like in the walkway and went up and hit the pin and went in. It was funny.
Q. When you hit it, did you think, this has a chance to be close?
JODI EWART SHADOFF: I thought it was going to land right on the front edge. I think the kick that it took, kind of took a left kick, so I thought it was going to be in the middle of the green to be honest. Yeah, wasn't expecting that.
Q. With that hole-in-one, I believe seventh on the LPGA.
JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah.
Q. Brings you to No. 2 all-time in hole-in-ones on the LPGA. Can you talk about that. I know it's probably not something you think about.
JODI EWART SHADOFF: No, I had no idea actually. Yeah, that's crazy. I've actually had 17 in my whole career, but, yeah, seven on the LPGA.
And, I mean, it's awesome. My last one was the one I had at Evian to win the Porsche. It's been a little bit of a while but, yeah, it was nice.
Q. With every hole-in-one there is the CME donation to St. Jude's hospital, $20,000 going to St. Jude's. Can you just talk about what that means just when you make a hole-in-one being able to donate that money?
JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, I mean, obviously our partnership with them is incredible. Donating that amount of money to help children is -- it feels great to be able to do that today and to contribute for sure.
Q. And then outside of the hole-in-one, played a great round of golf.
JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah.
Q. Talk about how do you bring in the emotions after that and get back to your process and make sure you're still playing some good golf?
JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, obviously you're on a little bit of a high after that. You kind of have to reset on the next tee and just kind of go through your process and concentrate on each shot.
I played really steady. The putts are falling the last two days, so that's been nice. It's a tough golf course. You have to be on the fairway and greens are hard to hit, so it's been nice. My ball striking has been good, so I'm kind of in a really good place with my game right now.
Q. You've been grinding I think off the golf course a little more than most people know. How validating is this performance in pursuit of a top 10 finish this weekend?
JODI EWART SHADOFF: Absolutely. I finished top 10 in Mexico, which was my last event. It's been a very long couple of years since I last won. You know, I've had a couple injuries since then that it's just been mentally hard to come back from.
Now I'm in a good place mentally finally and starting to enjoy playing golf again, and I think it's showing with my results this year.
Q. How have you gotten yourself back to that healthy mental position?
JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, I had a really good offseason where I just kind of fell back in love with the game again. Working with my whole team, coaches, and just kind of seeing the improvements day by day, it's been nice.
I struggled a little bit with anxiety on the golf course which has been hard the last year, year and a half. I think I've kind of gotten past that.
And going back to Q-School last year was kind of like a humbling time for me. You know, kind of showed me that worse case scenario happened and I got through it and I'm still here.
You know, it kind of lightens the load a little bit.
Q. 17 hole-in-ones is the most insane thing I've ever heard in my life. Do you remember your first hole-in-one? If you do, tell us about it.
JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yes, my first hole-in-one I think I was playing the British Amateur. I was 18, and it's funny, because it was the -- my college coach at the time, it was the first hole she ever watched and she was in the middle of recruiting me at the time, so kind of was a sign, sealed, delivered kind of moment.
So it was nice. You know, there has been so many obviously since then, but that one definitely sticks out in my mind. First one is always really nice.
Q. What hole and what golf course?
JODI EWART SHADOFF: I don't remember the golf course name. I remember it was on the 5th hole.
