Flash Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Corey Conners is with us now at the 108th PGA Championship. Corey, 2-under for you today. What did you do well out there?

COREY CONNERS: I felt like I hit the ball really well. There's a number of demanding shots that everybody faces out there and was able to execute some pretty good ones at important times to kind of keep the momentum going and keep the stress level at a minimum.

THE MODERATOR: Perfect. Questions?

Q. So what was the most challenging part, the rough on the fairway, the rough around the greens, the greens, or the three?

COREY CONNERS: Yeah, kind of a mix. Certainly missing fairways is penalizing. But they had some really tricky pin locations that you had to be careful with. I thought the setup was very challenging. A couple of the par-3s stretched way back on 8 and 17. You really had to hit quality golf shots on those holes to give yourself a chance at par, really.

But, yeah, I think the important thing is getting in the fairway to start with and then trying to get it on the right side of the hole around the greens.

Q. You face this all the time but do you enjoy the fact that you played well on a Thursday afternoon and you're going to be back here, I don't know, in 12 hours going again. Is that good?

COREY CONNERS: Yeah, I feel like I'm excited to get going again in the morning. Had some good momentum going today, try to keep that going into Friday. Still lots of golf to be played, but I like how I played today and can take the same feeling into tomorrow.

Q. One bogey on your card today. I'm sure you're pretty happy to have that kind of a round.

COREY CONNERS: Yeah, definitely. I think the way the course was playing and the wind was up quite a bit, bogeys could happen really easily. I was fortunate to hit the ball quite well and keep myself out of trouble for the most part.

I had a few reasonable lies when I did hit it in the rough and was able to advance the ball up around the greens. But a lot of good ball striking today kept me in position to try and make birdies, if not pars.

Q. There is one bogey-free round out this afternoon. How impressive is that?

COREY CONNERS: Yeah, really impressive. I was pretty close, I guess. Just one bogey on 15. But it's really solid playing. You have to really do everything well to not make bogeys around here.
