THE G4D OPEN

May 14, 2026

Kipp Popert

Newport, Wales, UK

Quick Quotes

Q. Just going to what Andy said, you had your surgery last year?

KIPP POPERT: Yeah, I had surgery on my foot in January.

Q. You tried to play then at Woburn a year ago?

KIPP POPERT: Yeah, like my right foot, I had the same surgery done about eight years ago now, and I was back hitting balls after 15 weeks. It's sore still now, like it's not in pain.

So we went and did the same surgery on the left, and sadly it's still sore now. It's more bearable because I'd only just started walking when The G4D Open happened last year. So I was trying to play and I could hit a ball, but I could do four holes. There's no way I could have played.

Q. So seeing Brendan won too, has it kind of fired you up this week. Now you're back to try and have a go at it this year again?

KIPP POPERT: Yeah, absolutely. I think it always does, but Brendan is a close friend of mine. I'll be honest, I hope to win more of these, and I hope to play well. I don't think I've got much to prove. I think my track record in disabled tournaments on the G4D Tour and others, US Adaptive Open, shows what I can do when I'm healthy.

I want the disabled golf to grow off the back of high performance. Brendan is an example of someone who's extremely high performing. It's nice to have an extremely close relationship -- I was at his wedding -- and to also have the competitive nature as well.

Q. You mentioned this kind of camaraderie and people coming together from 25 countries represented this week. You do seem to enjoy that side of it as well?

KIPP POPERT: Massively. It's easily the highlight, easily. I feel like, if you win a tournament, it's awesome. But then when you win by making friends and growing and learning together, you win twice basically.

The other thing is this is one of the few championships now, we have this one and the US Adaptive Open, where the community get together. There's not many opportunities for it, and that's where golf is trying to go. I appreciate the opportunities that are being created.

But it's almost like when you're sort of starved of it, it means that when you get it, it's amazing.

Q. Just touch on that round, challenging. You said some of the pin positions were tricky, and you had to adapt to that. You still come in and shot 1-over. Was it 1-over or 2-over?

KIPP POPERT: 2-over.

Q. 2-over, so you must be pretty proud of that effort.

KIPP POPERT: The greens are extremely tricky. They're not very quick at all. The R&A team and the refs have tried to put the pin at the flattest points, and it's still extremely slopey out there.

We also don't know the course that well. There was a few times that me and Ben tried to learn the course the best we could, and we stood there looking at the pin location. It helps to know where the really significant slopes are. We, at the moment, don't have that.

I think it's just extremely challenging. That's the other thing is at no point can you breathe. Like because it's even on the easier holes, you're still putting. And if you just take your brain off for two seconds, instead of having a two-footer, you've got six.

No, it's a challenge in that regard, and I do love challenges. It would be lovely if it was sunny and no wind, but the wind doesn't make it easy.
