INTERNAZIONALI BNL D'ITALIA

May 11, 2026

Iga Swiatek

Roma, Italia

Press Conference

I. SWIATEK/N. Osaka

6-2, 6-1

THE MODERATOR: Iga, your thought on the win tonight.

IGA SWIATEK: Yeah, for sure was great match. From the beginning till the end I knew what to do, and I did that great. I was pretty confident with my game.

Yeah, happy with the performance.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Despite the windy conditions tonight, you hit 26 winners and only 18 unforced errors. What is your confidence level on clay so far? Does it keep growing as you play more matches in this tournament?

IGA SWIATEK: Yeah, for sure the amount of matches really helps because I wasn't able to play many matches before. So yeah, the goal is to play as many as possible here.

I didn't feel like it was that windy. I think when I played against Caty, it was much more windy. Honestly, I was pretty patient. I think I made good decisions in terms of the risk, didn't risk too much when it was unnecessary.

I felt really solid today. Yeah, for sure that also made the stats like that.

Q. You said a few weeks ago that you kind of just want to feel really solid behind the baseline, like you can't miss in a way. Did you feel like that today at times?

IGA SWIATEK: Yeah, I actually did. This is why we practice that way with Francis. I felt like, yeah, these training weeks really helped. It's a nice step forward.

Q. The practice court is obviously very far. Logistically, how does Francis get there? Is he on a golf buggy?

IGA SWIATEK: He's taking a buggy. That is really saving us because first day we actually couldn't get it and he had to go all the way to the practice courts. It was pretty tough.

Also every day he's walking better on crutches. He's learning a new skill (smiling).

Q. You're playing Pegula next. What do you make of playing her in these conditions?

IGA SWIATEK: Well, let's see when the match will be. Also the conditions will depend on that.

Yeah, I mean, Jess is always a tough opponent. She is already super experience and always calm, playing in a solid way. I will need to be ready, watch her games on the clay court, 'cause I think it's been a while since we played on clay. Yeah, we'll see.

Q. Curious with a new coach, what do you want from them when you're on court? How different is it from when you have known someone for a long time?

IGA SWIATEK: Honestly, I felt like I understood Francis from the beginning. I guess it also depends on the specific, like, relationship you have with the coach.

But I think any player wants a coach like with a good eye, a clear plan of what to do, how to achieve that. Francis has a really nice touch in terms of also, like, adjusting the practice to what the player needs right now. Also he's aware of kind of all the factors that are coming in.

It all kind of clicks together, I would say, both physical, mental and technical part on the practices. You know that he's aware of all of these. It's nice.
