THE MODERATOR: Playing in the final group on a Sunday. A chance there to force the playoff. Just what's your initial thoughts coming off the green?
MARK HUBBARD: Yeah, I mean, super bummed. I definitely felt like it was going to be my day. I felt like I played, you know, really solid all week.
Had a few loose shots today overall, but I thought today played the toughest by far. I thought the pin locations were way, way tougher and with the conditions especially. They put a lot of pins on kind of the big slopes, the downgrain parts and kind of the crowns of the greens, which was interesting, because it was the firmest day and the most wind. So it definitely played tricky out there.
So I'm definitely bummed, but you know, it's golf, and I'm just going to learn from it.
THE MODERATOR: What was it like coming down the stretch on nine with kind of the bounce-back birdies? What was going through your head?
MARK HUBBARD: On nine?
THE MODERATOR: Or on the back nine. I forget what hole your two birdies were on.
MARK HUBBARD: Yeah, I mean, you know, like I've said all week, that stretch five through nine plays really tough. I gave two back there. The one on eight, you know, that green is just kind of impossible with the 5-iron. You're just not really going to hold it.
The only one I really want back is that chip on I think six, but yeah, I mean, I really wasn't feeling, like, nervous or that bad or down after anything. I mean, the save on nine was one of the better bunker shots I've hit in a long time. I was feeling pretty good.
Yeah, I got a few to fall. Didn't really start to feel much nerves until probably 14 tee just because that's a tough tee shot, and hit a really good one there, and a great par-save putt. That was one of the better putts I hit all week.
So, yeah, you know, I feel like I was definitely nervous both days, and I feel like internally I handled it really well. So I was proud of that. I just got ahead of two drives on 15 and 18, and that cost me.
THE MODERATOR: Talk about nerves. Were they there on the putt there on 18 to force the playoff? What were you seeing on the read there?
MARK HUBBARD: Honestly, I would say they were more on the second putt, you know, knowing that 17 was still a second and, you know, just knowing how down in the dumps or defeated. It's hard to pick yourself back up and be, like, no, no, no, I have a very important 4-footer. Way more on that one.
The putt, I thought I hit a much better wedge shot in there. I thought it was going to get a lot closer, and the putt I left myself was 5 feet of break downgrain. So it's not a putt you're going to make too much. I was just happy I gave it a good run.
THE MODERATOR: Talked a lot about being proud of your attitude this week. What's going to be the biggest take-away from this week going into the rest of the season?
MARK HUBBARD: Yeah, I mean, it's always one of those with golf, like, what comes first, the chicken or the egg? Was my attitude good because I had unbelievable ball control for the most part of this week, or did I have ball control because my attitude was good? We'll see.
You know, I know I feel -- right now I feel a lot better than I would have in past situations, and just overall throughout the week I had a lot more fun out there. I just felt a lot more calm and less stressed, and that was really nice.
I'd like to continue feeling that throughout the rest of the year. So I'm definitely going to keep working on those things.
