MIZUHO AMERICAS OPEN

Mountain Ridge Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Alison Lee after her third round at the Mizuho Americas Open. Really solid round from you today. How good did this one feel?

ALISON LEE: It felt really great. I mean, yesterday my last nine holes I was in the afternoon and I was really sweating out there.

I wasn't hitting my irons the way I wanted to. I missed a few greens. Thankfully I got up and down and gave myself a few tap-in pars.

But, yeah, I was really sweating it out there yesterday even with a late finish. I tried to go to the range and figure a few things out, and going into today my typical miss is like a push cut, which I hate. I don't like seeing the ball go right.

I told my caddie, Aaron, today, I don't care how far left this goes, I'm just going to try and commit to a little draw. Even if I miss it left of left, I'm going to try and stay positive and be happy with it.

So that was kind of the goal of today. Not so much to go out there and shoot a low number, but just try and hit my irons the way I want to and try and get a little bit of confidence back.

And today the putter worked great too. I mean, I hit quite a few good iron shots. I played the par-5s really well. So, yeah, well really happy with my round.

Q. Yeah, only 88 putts so far this week; 27 putts today. What in particular was it? Was it just everything was falling in? Your approach game was good? What was it?

ALISON LEE: I would say today playing really early I was a bit worried because I've said this before, a lot of my day and how I feel and energy level-wise has a lot to do with how well my son sleeps.

I will say he slept amazing last night. Didn't make a peep. Even when I woke up he didn't make a peep. So I had good rest.

And the wind was down a ton this morning. I mean, it played a lot more -- I wouldn't say easier, but definitely I was able to really trust shots and know the wind is not going to gust and hit it.

This course is tough, and with some of the pins and how the greens slope and all that it is pretty tricky to trust it out there. Yeah, with the winds down I was able to give myself more birdie opportunities.

I would say the last couple days I missed quite a few greens and couldn't give myself those birdie looks, so I gave myself quite a few more today and played the par-5s awesome. So, yeah.

Q. It is a super tricky course. Only one bogey for you today. What have you been doing to keep yourself out of those bogey situations?

ALISON LEE: I mean, a lot of it is missing it in the right spot out here. Some of the pins are pretty tucked, so especially if you're above the hole sometimes it's impossible. Even when you're on the green you have a 15-footer downhill, you're worried you'll hit it ten feet by.

So it's just knowing that and trying to play smart but also aggressive when you can. Like I said, with the wind down today it played a little bit shorter. Like some of the holes were pounding downwind, or into the wind, I'm sorry, and it would play a lot longer with longer clubs.

I feel like I was able to have a few more shorter clubs today, can try and get a little bit more aggressive with some of those pins with a shorter club in, y hand.

Q. I think we've seen over the week the back is playing a little bit more difficult than the front. What are some of the key differences from the two nines?

ALISON LEE: I would say the main thing probably is the par-5s. I mean, I think you would assume that both of those par-5-s, did you say the front?

Q. The front is playing easier than the back.

ALISON LEE: Yeah, the front, I mean, two par-5s are essentially reachable. On the other side it gets a little bit more tricky. They moved the tee box up today on 17, but it's still a tricky tee shot because there is a little creek there and some longer hitters too, I mean, you probably have to layup.

Even if you hit a driver down there, which I did today, and it's still tough to hold that green and get it on there.

18 is playing so tough. I mean, yesterday the pin was -- it was like insane. I think the average score for that hole was bogey. It was closer to bogey than par.

So there is just a few tricky holes on that side and you have a little bit of long are clubs in. There is quite a few holes a little bit more into as well which makes it a little bit more tough.

But today it wasn't too bad. Like I said, the wind of down. I played the back nine first so there weren't much wind.

So, yeah.

Q. Last one: Mother's Day tomorrow. Have Levi here. How excited are you to spend at that day with him and any plans when we're done with the round?

ALISON LEE: Yeah, it's so crazy. It's so weird to think like, because when I see him -- it's been a year, but it still hasn't hit me that this is my son, you know what I mean? It's crazy to think.

And I mean this feels like the first real Mother's Day. Last year he was still only a few weeks old and I was in the trenches. This year looks a little bit different.

My mom is also here as well so, yeah, it's just nice to have them here. Like I said it's weird. It's still -- I think sometimes I to pinch myself and remind myself I'm a mom. Even for me saying I'm a mom or that's my son is still tough to fully grasp.

It still hasn't settled in yet. Just glad he's here. He's such a rock star. He's handled this travel and all the changes really well. He's so sweet and friendly with everyone and always giving everyone a smile. Super social. If I drop him off in the corner and a nice couple picks him up I don't think he would mind.

But, yeah, it just means a lot.
