Quick Quotes
Q. Joining us after the first round of the Mizuho Americas Open is Polly Mack. Polly, strong round for you today. Can you just talk about what was going well for you on this golf course?
POLLY MACK: Yeah, I feel like being a Monday qualifier I have already had my fair share of practice rounds on this course. I've had quite tough conditions on Monday, which quite helped me to stay calm. Today there were some gusts, but, yeah, I just played this course a couple times now and kind of know what to do, where to stay on the course, and where to miss.
Had a good practice for the wind shots, and, yeah, just kind of swing it easy out there. The mini driver is really working for me off the tee, so, yeah, it's a nice good course for me because I also feel like I can use my strengths, hit my driver a lot, which is nice.
And, yeah, just try and stay calm when you don't hit a green and make some putts, which helped today. So, yeah.
Q. You mentioned it, but you were a Monday qualifier for this event. Coming into the week do you feel like you have more to prove or do you feel like you've kind of already laid it on the line?
POLLY MACK: No, I think it kind of just keeps me relaxed because I know I've done a good job already and now it's time to like obviously really do good.
But I feel like a Monday qualifier is always nice to sort your expectations and just kind of take it one day at a time. I've done pretty good at Monday qualifiers before and they taught me that one day at a time. It's a long week, and, yeah, just one shot, one hole at a time.
Q. Yeah, you brought me to my next question again, that you were very successful at Monday qualifiers. You've have I think four in the last few years. Can you talk a little bit about your mindset heading into a Monday qualifier and then also why you think you were so successful in those rounds specifically.
POLLY MACK: Yeah, I would say just keeping those expectations low. Just I think really important there is you just have 18 holes and you kind of just got to know when to play aggressive and also when to keep it easy.
It doesn't take a crazy lot. I shot even par out here, but it was also crazy conditions, a lot of wind. Just, yeah, make the putts that you -- or the chances that you get and, yeah, I would say just easygoing, one hole at a time.
Q. Looking at the weather, looks like the conditions will get trickier over the next three days. How are you preparing for that and how does the momentum you got today kind of carry you through?
POLLY MACK: Learning from the past few events I'm just thinking, again, one day at a time. It's a long week. I feel like in total and I think it's a long week still ahead of us.
Yeah, knowing the conditions will definitely change the course a little bit up I would say, and just stay easy and just take the unexpected, see what happens, just play it out on the course.
