Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: Okay, hello and welcome to the media center at the 2026 Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. Joined by Carlota Ciganda. Carlota, can you just talk about being here in Mexico this week.
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, it's always very nice to come here. I love coming to a country that they speak my language, Spanish. The people is very welcoming, very nice. I always enjoy coming to Mexico.
I think it's a great setup, great golf course, great hotel. Came here last year and played good, so happy to be back.
Q. Can you talk about the golf course, too? You got chance to play in the pro-am today. Talk a little bit about what you saw out there.
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, the golf course is tricky. It's quite narrow off the tee and small greens, so you have to be I think a good ball-striker. It's, yeah, going to play good this week.
I think hitting it straight off the tee and hitting your targets, it's important. You have the wind, so low ball this week.
Yeah, I think it's a great setup. I don't think you have to shoot very low every day to be at the top so I like that kind of courses.
Yeah, I'm excited to start tomorrow.
Q. This event coming after our first major championship of the year, can you talk about the change in pace a little bit from last week to this week?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, I think the first major of the year I think everyone is just excited, a little bit more anxious and ready to go. Yeah, you want to play good.
Coming into this week I think a lot more relaxing. Also like here, the weather, the hotel feels like you're on a holiday, especially in the afternoons. I've been going to the pool and relaxing.
Yeah, I think it's a great setup, as I said. I think the people are very nice and they are happy to have us here, so it's always very nice to come somewhere that they are happy to have us.
Q. And last question: We talked about role models amongst a lot of the other that came in, and a lot of people pointed to Lorena. Who did you look up in the women's game growing up and why?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: To be honest, I didn't watch much women's golf when I was growing up. It wasn't on TV. It was more men's golf. I do remember Lorena a lot and obviously Annika. Lorena, she's amazing. I saw her yesterday and I think she's such a nice person, so humble, like how nice she is to everyone, the way she talks.
I think what she did not only for golf but in Mexico for all the players, girls, we know you have Gaby, but I think to have someone from Mexico world No. 1, to see what she did, I think it's very inspiring.
I think she still does things for Mexico with her foundation and for the girls and schools it's very nice to see her involved with golf.
So I think she is a great role model and, yeah, very happy to have met her and always enjoy talking to her.
