MUTUA MADRID OPEN

April 28, 2026

Jannik Sinner

Madrid, Spain

Press Conference

J. SINNER/C. Norrie

6-2, 7-5

THE MODERATOR: Let's start with English, and then we'll move to Italian. Anyone for Jannik? Please raise your hand.

Q. You have a massive fan following in India, especially amongst up-and-coming players. You even promised to visit and play there back in 2024, and we're still waiting. I wanted to ask, do you have any message to share to all the Indian tennis fans rooting for you, and the players? As a bonus question, what's your favorite Indian dish?

JANNIK SINNER: Did I? I don't remember I promised. But, yeah, look, I do remember you have, I don't know if you still have the 250 there? So it's nice. You had amazing players, and hopefully it's going to come up in the future. I'm not sure if I'm able to come, but of course I would love to. It's a part of the world I've never been, and I would like to visit one day.

I have a great relationship with Indian players, it's nice. Back in the days we had some great players coming from there. There's also one younger one which practiced in the same center as I did, back in the day, coming from India. So it's nice.

Favorite dish? Buttered chicken, is that? Yeah. So that's something I enjoy.

Q. What does it feel like to win, I think you're at 20 matches in a row now? Do you think about the streak at all? I know it's very hard to win tennis matches, so when you win 20 matches in a row, it's pretty, that's a pretty special thing.

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, no, it's good. But at the same time you don't think about it. You know, you have one opponent every day, and you just try to have the best, the better day than your opponent. Different conditions, depending also the time slots you play. Different opponent, you know. Today it was a lefty, so you have to change a couple of things.

But I'm not thinking, you know. I'm trying to put myself in the best possible position to win as many matches as possible, and that's it. So, of course, every day mentally you need to be ready for a tough battle and tough fight, and that's what I'm trying to do.

Q. I've been talking to a lot of tennis fans from Spain, and you've got a big support here. Do you think that you and Carlos are sending a message of a healthy and a good rivalry?

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I mean, I definitely have a great friendship with Carlos, and I believe that helps also with some support here.

I think that it also goes both ways. When he plays in Italy, he has a nice and good support. Of course, when Carlos plays against an Italian player in Italy it's, you know, people, they support more the Italian player most likely. And here it's the same if I play against a Spanish player. I know that it's not personal.

Me and Carlos, we have a great rivalry on the court. And off the court, you know, whenever we shake hands, it's like nothing happened. I think these people can see, and it's also nice. So, yeah, it's good for the sport.

Q. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. I don't know which day do you prefer to play.

THE MODERATOR: He plays tomorrow.

Q. So if you prefer to play a day or a night match, in which turn do you prefer to play?

JANNIK SINNER: I mean, any, any. For me it doesn't matter. But I heard some people talk about, you know, the scheduling, me playing at 11 and Jodar at 4. I think it's good, you know, because it's tough when you schedule two matches starting from 8. You cannot pretend that matches are over in one and a half hours each, you know, and at 11 the game is over.

When Jodar played in the night, it was very, very late, you know, going on court around 11, finish around 1, 1:15. In my point of view that's too late.

Today was common sense that I play at 11 and then Jodar at 4, because he needs also a little bit more of rest.

But whenever they put me, I'm fine. I'm happy to play at 11. I'm happy to play a little bit later. So, yeah, I think, you know, there's couple of things. In my point of view, it's good that they change it. You know, because also for our body and mind, you know, going on court at 11 and you play at midnight, past midnight, it's not easy.

Then also, even if you have a day off, the fans they see only us on court, and then we finish at 1:15. But then you have press conference, recovery, eating, treatment, you know, you don't go to bed until 4 or 5. It messes up the whole day. So I think we can do better, definitely, in this point of view.

Q. The other day you spoke a little bit about Rafa Jodar. I guess you're aware that if he wins today he will be your rival tomorrow. I don't know if you had the chance to watch him a little bit against Fonseca. How would you face him tomorrow if that's the match?

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I mean, I watched the whole match, it stayed on the TV in the hotel. Very, very high-level match. But it's not going to be the only time we face each other, that's my feeling.

I think it's good. For me also personally, always pretending that he wins tomorrow, it would be good if I face him before bigger tournaments coming up, Rome and then Roland Garros. Here are very unique conditions. He is from Madrid, no, so he is very used to these conditions here. But at the same time I can have good, good feedback hopefully for bigger tournaments coming up.

So very exciting new player. Big, big talent. So let's see what's coming. At the same time, he still needs to win one match today. I know every match is difficult. Kopriva won against very, very tough players, including also Rublev. So, tough player, but in any case I'll try to be as ready as possible.
