Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: Welcome to the media center at the 2026 Riviera Maya Open in Mayakoba. I am joined by Linn Grant. Linn, start talking a little bit about the tournament itself. Tell me about being back here in Mexico and why it's so awesome.
LINN GRANT: Really excited to be back. I had a good week last year. And just nice to be here. The course is so nice. The weather is great. Hotel is beautiful. Food is great. Not a lot of things to complain about this week.
So, yeah, just really fun to be back.
Q. What did you take from last year's experience here in terms of the golf course?
LINN GRANT: I remember it being quite tricky off the tee; quite narrow; windy; quite a challenging overall course.
I feel like this year the rough is a little bit shorter. They made it a little kinder for us, which I don't mind.
But overall just a really good challenge out there.
Q. Can you tell us a little who is Linn outside the course? What do you like to do? What kind of music do you listen to? What kind of books do you read?
LINN GRANT: Wow. Good question. When I don't play golf -- well, usually I just spend my time at home with my family and friends. Like to go on long, quiet dinners with friends. I like to spend my time around horses a lot. Go to the gym. Be outdoors.
I'm a very calm person, so I like to just be home and enjoy the quiet for once when I'm not traveling and working out and practicing, yeah.
Q. My question is: What experience you every day in the golf and other areas?
LINN GRANT: What?
Q. What's your experience...
LINN GRANT: What my experience is with golf?
Q. Uh-huh, yes.
LINN GRANT: Overall you mean?
Q. Yes.
LINN GRANT: Depends on the day. Right now golf is not my friend. We're having a bit of a battle, which is fine. I think that's part of being a professional athlete.
Right now I'm trying to find a good balance between what I enjoy on and off the golf course and what I enjoy with golf. Really trying to find my place with it I think.
Q. Who do you travel with to these kind of tournaments?
LINN GRANT: I travel with my boyfriend. He's also caddying for me, so we go everywhere together.
Q. Any pet?
LINN GRANT: Pets? No pets, no.
Q. What are your overall thoughts about Mexican golf players and of course what memories do you have of a legend such as Lorena Ochoa?
LINN GRANT: My overall thought is that there are so many very talented players, especially playing in the field this week. I mean, playing as an amateur, the Mexican players were also very talented when I played and playing in college golf.
I feel like Mexican golf especially on the women's side are on a big rise, and I think it's fun to see. It's always fun to see golf next expanding everywhere in the world regardless of where.
I think also a lot of young players have a lot of good role models. You said Lorena, but also Gaby and Maria who is playing out on the LPGA. I think Mexicans golf is in good hands for the next years to come.
Q. You said your boyfriend is your caddie. How important is communication, especially like in days where things aren't going the way you want?
LINN GRANT: Very important. It's not always easy, but regardless, you know if you have I don't your boyfriend or just a regular caddie on the bag, I think communication is always difficult in any relationship you have.
So I think for us, I think for the two of us it's a little bit easier because we want to spend time together. So, yeah, I think that's a strength that we have that we just bring out on the golf course.
Q. I would like to ask you what do you consider that is the impact of this kind of tournaments here in Latin America since this is the only tournament of LPGA here in Latin America? How do you think you could impact to girls and teenagers here in this area? Thanks.
LINN GRANT: I think a tournament like this has a big impact, or I would hope so, like you're saying, especially for younger generations. Maybe girls come out and watch us play and they want to do the same in the future.
I hope it brings a lot of interest to golf. I'm obviously not -- I don't know a lot about golf in Mexico in general, but I think anywhere you go I think if you can always have the younger generation to experience an event like this or meet other older players and get inspired, I think it's huge for the years to come.
THE MODERATOR: Thank you so much.
LINN GRANT: Thank you.
