Press Conference
J. SINNER/E. Moller
6-2, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: We'll go straight into English and then Italian.
Q. The other day you were talking about the court conditions in Manolo Santana Stadium. Did you notice the court was less slippery today or was it the same?
JANNIK SINNER: More or less the same. I feel like it depends also how warm, and if you play under the sun. Today was a little bit warmer, so it tends to be a little bit more slippery because the court is drying out earlier.
But went through quite fast, time-wise. In the beginning of the set they put water, so it's, you have more grip. So, yeah, also we are getting used to it a little bit more. You know, day by day you move a little bit better, so it was okay.
Q. Yesterday you were seen practicing next to Rafa Jodar's court, and you also spent some time watching his last game. What do you think of his game? Many people say that his style is quite similar to yours.
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, he's a very, very talented player. He was warming up today with Nicolai, the Norwegian guy. And they're in a very interesting year, you know, born 2006. There's Joao, Jodar, Nicolai, Sakamoto, they're all very, very good players, and it's a very strong year.
Jodar is a very, very clean hitter, very easy power. You can hear with the sound, you know, when he touches it, and it's a good sound coming from the racquet.
He's very, very talented. He's going to be a great, great player in the future, and he's already showing. I like the mentality, it's quite calm. I don't know him personally, but he seems very humble. So, yeah, he's a very, very good player, and I wish him only the best.
Q. I was wondering if you're aware of this virus going on between the players, and just checking if you're perfect.
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I heard many withdrawals. I don't spend a lot of time here. I come match days a little bit earlier, but practice days very late. I practice and then I get away. But this is how I do every tournament.
I don't know if it's something what's just around here, or in general, but this can happen. When one gets sick, you know, you're always quite close to each other in the dining rooms and in the gym, so it can happen.
Q. 24 consecutive wins in Masters 1000 tournaments. You have already taken Rafa Nadal. Winning in Madrid brings you closer to Federer and Djokovic. Do you think about that?
JANNIK SINNER: No, not really. I always said, and I continue to say, I don't, I cannot compare myself with these names. They did so much stuff in their career, I'm just in the beginning. Yeah, they are different level, you know.
For me, I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to play as many matches as possible. But what they did, it's something else. I just try to give everything I have a hundred percent in every match. If I win, good. If not, I tried my best and I don't have regrets. So that's it.
Q. You have been playing so many tournaments this year with such great results. How do you keep your motivation high and stay mentally sharp week by week? Kind of talk us through that aspect of your work.
JANNIK SINNER: No, for me, I never take things for granted. I try to understand what's working very well in certain conditions. A good example is Indian Wells and Miami, two completely different conditions. And you come back to the clay, you don't have a lot of time, but you try to understand what's working there. Then you come here, this is a clay court by itself I feel like, very unique conditions. I just try to understand what's working. This is my motivation, you know, trying to put myself in the best possible position to win as many matches as possible and that's it. You know, there are no, there's no magic, you know. You always try to understand what's working well in every practice session, and trying to do the same thing in the match. The motivation I find by this, you know. Yeah, so that's it.
