THE CHEVRON CHAMPIONSHIP

April 25, 2026

Gaby Lopez

Houston, Texas, USA

Memorial Park Golf Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Joining us after the third round Of the Chevron Championship is Gaby Lopez. Bogey-free today, 66. Talk about what was going well for you out there.

GABY LOPEZ: Honestly, a little bit of everything. I was hitting it very solid off the tee. Iron play has been very solid the last two rounds, and wedge hitting has been very, very solid, as well. Putting has been also.

One of those days that you feel comfortable overall. A little bit of a mindset shift from day one to two and three. Yeah, it's just crazy, once you get in rhythm, just kind of let it go, and that's how you flow.

Q. You hit most of your fairways today; do you feel like this course is penalizing if you have less luck off the tee?

GABY LOPEZ: I mean, 100 percent. Most of the pins are three, four, two and a half off the edge, and the only way to get it close is to get spin and height. That is just being in the fairway. Even if you're in the first cut, you can be aggressive. You just have to take your medicine, be disciplined, be patient, and yeah, I think that's what it takes.

Q. We saw a big crowd following you. They started chanting "Gaby" as you were signing autographs. Can you talk about the support you're feeling out here with the community here in Houston?

GABY LOPEZ: I mean, Texas is Mexico. You feel so many people not just from Mexico but Latin America all around. Most of them, they live here. It's just really fun to see familiar faces, and just very happy with the environment. Houston has been amazing for us, the crowds, weather this weekend, hopefully. Yeah, it's been fun.

Q. What was the mindset shift that you said you had?

GABY LOPEZ: You know, sometimes when you come into major championships, you want to do almost everything very perfect and you want to do everything to the minimal error so good, and for me it was just no -- my caddie always tells me, just f---ing hit it. It doesn't matter where it goes, we're going to find it, we're going to find a way. I think that just frees me up. It doesn't matter where it goes, just go again, find it and hit it again.

Q. 18-under Nelly is at right now; how good is that number?

GABY LOPEZ: Yeah, I mean, honestly, Nelly has proven so much quality of golf the last few weeks since she started in 2026. It's very inspiring. Actually on the second day that I saw that Nelly was 13- or 14-under, I told myself, hey, it's out there. Like, it's out there. Sometimes we just give too much respect to the golf course. Just grip it and rip it.

Yeah, she's been amazing and very, very awesome to watch and inspiring. Hopefully she can slow a little bit down so we can catch her a little bit more.

Q. There was some talk earlier in the week about what a major championship setup should look like. What is that in your mind?

GABY LOPEZ: We need more golf courses like this. We need longer golf courses. We don't need wedges every single day, every single hole. That's what suits my game. I think it just tests every single part of your game, driving it, hitting 5s, 4s into the greens, chipping it, putting it.

I think when you have these golf courses, you have more quality of golf. You have to be more creative around the greens. It's going to be tough for everybody. Even if you're a good ball striker and you're not having a good day, it's going to get you.

I feel that I love this kind of challenge.
