THE MODERATOR: Guys, I asked you yesterday after yesterday's round if you thought this would be a good format for you, and 65 is a great round in this kind of format. Just talk about how y'all played today.
MATT FITZPATRICK: I felt we played great today. We barely missed a shot. Made the putts when we needed to, made some good birdie looks, and yeah, just felt like we played really solid all around today.
ALEX FITZPATRICK: Yeah, like Matt said, I think we had two small blemishes. I missed a really short one on three at 12th hole and then Matt hit -- it wasn't even that bad a drive and kind of nestled up in the bunker, and we had to kind of wedge it out.
Other than that, I felt like we played really solid and, yeah, holed the putts when we needed to and came up with a nice score.
THE MODERATOR: The epitome of alternate shot. 18 I guess you hit a great shot and, Matt, you hit a great chip. Both of you talk about 18.
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, it was nice to steal a birdie there -- steal an eagle there at the last. I think that's probably going to be playing under par, that hole today, with the wind and with the chip. You are looking to nestle it down there from 2 or 3 feet and tap in birdie. Nice to steal one.
ALEX FITZPATRICK: I didn't really do anything. I hit a 3-wood to the left side of the fairway, and he just chipped it in. So, yeah, there's not much more I can add really.
Q. I think, Matt, you said yesterday that in a tournament like this you don't really know where you are until two rounds have been played because of the change in format. How do you feel big-picture now going into the last two rounds?
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, obviously great round today. Sort of obviously disappointing finish yesterday, but I feel like we're in good stead going into the weekend for sure.
I think we both played really, really nice golf today, and I think if we can take that again into the weekend, it will be, you know, fun.
Q. Was there any particular key to how you were communicating or strategizing that really made it work in tandem today?
MATT FITZPATRICK: No, I think, you know, we leave each other to it. I've helped Alex on the green a little bit, which we've done that here the last few years. I feel like that works nicely.
He putts really well, and I think some of the putts we made today were a testament to that. I think we made some really nice mid-rangers to pick up a few birdies, which you need in that format and to move up the leaderboard. So, yeah, just been a really solid day.
Q. Alex, the putt on five, yeah, what was interesting about that putt? What did you like about the way you executed?
ALEX FITZPATRICK: Again, I didn't feel like I did much. He read the putt for me, and I just keep listening to him, and they go in. Yeah, hopefully we keep doing that over the weekend. Yeah, it's much easier having somebody who reads the greens very well by your side.
Q. Last from me, how would you compare the appearance of the break to the way it's actually breaking? The way the greens are this week, is it pretty true?
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, yeah, the greens are pure as you like. They're as good as we play on all year. They're beautifully true, and there's a lot of grain in these greens, so you have to be wary of that.
If you've got a putt that's across the grain that's opposite to the slope, then that makes it difficult to read. Yeah, the greens are great. You know, you can definitely make some putts.
Q. For one, what's it like playing at the Zurich maybe compared to other tournaments, and how has the reception been for y'all in New Orleans?
ALEX FITZPATRICK: Obviously playing here as a family has been great for us, not seeing each other that much in the year. Since we first came here I think four years ago now, you guys have made us incredibly welcomed. Almost like took us in with open arms.
Coming here every year is exciting, and we always look forward to it. So now it's almost like a bit of a second home we like it that much. Yeah, it's great to come back here, and hopefully we keep doing it.
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, like he said, he said all the good stuff. Yeah, we love coming here. It's a much different change of pace tournament-wise. It doesn't feel quite as intense. You've got a teammate to back you up. It's obviously even nicer that it's my brother. Yeah, just looking forward to the weekend.
Q. Being here for four years now, is there something that you look forward to? It might be a hole, but it also might be a restaurant or something like that. Is there something you look forward to coming here?
MATT FITZPATRICK: For me I just look forward to playing the team event. I'll let Alex answer the rest of that.
ALEX FITZPATRICK: I really like Mr. B's. We're going back there.
MATT FITZPATRICK: It will be the third time tonight, yeah.
