Quick Quotes
Q. Joining us after the first round of The Chevron Championship is Pauline Roussin-Bouchard. Pauline, great day today; 4-under. Can you just talk about your experience on the course and what was going well?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: I think my short game was really good, especially my putting. I could really rely on it. Then I did have a little bit of an adventurous first shots like off the tee, so put me in some tweaky, yeah, hard situations.
But overall like it was honestly a great ball striking day. I'm just being a little picky, yeah.
Q. New venue. Everyone is on an even playing field. What do you think is really important to be successful at this course? Is it ball striking? Greens in regulation?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: I think you definitely need to have a great ball striking, especially going into the green. It's quite forgiving off the tee, but then you also have to rely on your short game. There is a lot of tiers and putting from below the green, so I think obviously it's major week so your whole game has been to be pretty much on pointe, but you don't need to be perfect.
So that's what I try to rely on today was just like you don't need to be perfect, just hang around and just try to put the ball in the hole, and, yeah.
Q. You've had a busy year. Some really great rounds and some places where you've been open about wanting to do better. How does it feel to be putting up a score like this in a major and how does that affirm you're heading into the right direction?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: I'm doing the right things and I've learned throughout the time how like majors you have to play tiny bit differently. Not play differently, but the mentality has to be a tiny bit different.
It's always nice to shoot a number like that on the first round of a major.
But, again, like it's process over prize like Rory says, and I really try to just keep myself on that and check the scores pretty much at the end of the week.
Q. Tell us a little bit about your process, like what your focus will be on to continue to keep yourself in contention?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: I think I'm really just trying to be myself out there. And, yeah, I mean, I'm just going focus on hitting good shots and just trying to put that ball in the hole. I have like a few interviews that I re-watch from the guys on majors that really speak to me, and I'm not going to reveal everything obviously. Maybe after the tournament.
As of right now it's just like one shot after the other and try to reset as much as possible; not to try to do anything crazy.
Q. Your 68 today ties your best round in a major. Heading into tomorrow, how are you going to feel happy and content and is this something that you're going to relish or something that today is over, focus on the next?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: I think I'm going to go hit the range and figure out those tee shots, and then make sure that I still feel confident with my swing and can rely on it a lot. I know that under pressure I know it's something -- like I get a little bit technical, in a good way.
So that's what I'm just going to do. Just take the win because it's great, but put in some work to feel fresh tomorrow.
