THE MODERATOR: We're joined now by Greg Owen here at the 2026 Senior PGA Championship. Greg, 4-under on the day. How do you feel about your round?
GREG OWEN: Very good, actually. Yeah, I played nice and solid. Obviously a little disappointed on the last. I actually felt like I put a good swing on my 6-iron there, and the wind got ahold of it and then slopes and grain and, you know, didn't play the worst pitch of the week.
Other than that, played really well. Very solid. Front nine was a little cagey here and there, but back nine I got going.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. Can you talk about those four birdies on the back nine? You took off there.
GREG OWEN: Exactly. You know, I didn't hit the best shot on 10 tee. Put it in the bunker. Holed a nice 20-footer there. Then nearly holed it on 11. Knocked it just on the edge of the green on 12. Two-putted and then hit a good 5-iron onto the green and two-putted there.
It's just a nice runway. I hit good shots and made the birdies, and it just gives you some momentum. Then on the way in, I just felt like a couple of things just seemed to go against me, but I held it together.
On 18 it was a little disappointing. It's a tough hole. I'm a little tired. You know, we've only played one event since December, so trying to get through this. It's tough.
Q. You were mentioning the wind on 18, and if looks like tomorrow there's going to be some wind.
GREG OWEN: Really? Okay, that's going to be fun. These greens don't -- you don't want to be playing these greens in wind. As long as it's the same for everyone, we'll just deal with what it comes and see who is the last man standing.
Q. How tough or perhaps not so tough is it to prepare for a major when you've only played one event since the end of the year?
GREG OWEN: Yeah, since the beginning of December. It's really tough. You know, the Legends Tour, we try and get more events early in the year, because you know, we're just stuck. Now no Q-School for Champions Tour.
We're stuck there. We're trying to play, but you know, it doesn't matter how much practice you put in. Getting out there and having the reps in competition is what matters.
I made a couple of silly mental errors this week. It's all down to just getting the reps in and having tournament conditions week in, week out.
Q. Speaking of tournament conditions, what do you make of the course and particularly the greens and how easy it is to go wrong?
GREG OWEN: Well, they've moved the tees up, so you know, it's not playing overly long. Obviously there are sections of the greens that are vital to hit and other parts you need to stay away from. The hardest bit is how much the wind changes around here. It's crazy. It can go 180 in a blink.
You've got what you feel like the perfect club, and then the next thing you are missing the green. It's really tricky, because you need to be very accurate on this golf course, but it's generous on off the tee. It's in fantastic condition. So, you know, again, we'll just turn up tomorrow and see what the Gods give.
