SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

April 18, 2026

Vijay Singh

Bradenton, Florida, USA

Press Conference

The Concession Golf Club

THE MODERATOR: Vijay Singh is with us at the 2026 Senior PGA Championship. Vijay, 5-under today. How would you summarize your round?

VIJAY SINGH: Oh, very scrappy. You know, I played well in patches and putted nicely. You know, I'd take a 67 at the beginning of the day.

You know, too many loose shots out there, but very happy with the score. If I do that tomorrow, it's going to be a struggle.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Can you talk about the front nine, the four birdies?

VIJAY SINGH: I actually played the front nine really well. I missed I think three really good opportunities for birdies. A couple of them were inside of 5 feet that I could have made those.

It's tough greens. Very tough greens, very tough conditions, very, very hot. So, you know, you've got to keep hydrate and keep going.

Q. Vijay, do you know anything at all about the guy that's leading the tournaments, Sriroj?

VIJAY SINGH: No. I know he's from Thailand, right?

Q. We're expecting some wind tomorrow.

VIJAY SINGH: Well, I hope so. The golf course is not very long. If you drive the ball in play, you can get a lot of chances for birdies here. The par-5 greens are really difficult. Probably the most difficult greens we play on tour.

The fifth hole. Is it the fifth hole? Yeah, fourth hole. You know, seventh hole. You miss it on the wrong side, you know, struggling. Then obviously 12 and 17 are no gimmes either.

I mean, they are short holes, but you've got to place it properly, so...

Q. Vijay, you're known for your tireless work ethic as a golfer. When you look at your game right now, is there a certain part that you really want to focus on?

VIJAY SINGH: I'm really struggling with my body right now. You know, I've got a really bad foot, left foot, and I can play around then, and then I have this crazy sciatica going down my right side. So it was very close for me not playing over here.

It started a couple of weeks ago. It was a struggle last week. It's been a struggle, but I'm managing to work around. The guys at the physio van are incredible. Doogie has done a great, great job on me to get me going, but we'll see tomorrow.

Q. You mentioned last week we were asking Olazábal if being at Augusta last weeks kind of helps you feel like you have a more gettable golf course this week?

VIJAY SINGH: Yeah, it is gettable, but you know, again, it's a major, and it's no gimme. These greens are just pretty hard to deal with.

It's almost as hard as Augusta if you look at some of the greens, you know, and they're getting faster. Thank God we haven't had any wind here. If it's going to be blowy tomorrow, we're going to have some fun.
