SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

April 18, 2026

Steve Allan

Bradenton, Florida, USA

Press Conference

The Concession Golf Club

THE MODERATOR: We're joined now by Steve Allan here at the 2026 Senior PGA Championship. Steve, 4-under on the day. What did you think about your round?

STEVE ALLAN: It was good. It was tricky out there. Yesterday was a bit up and down, so I was quite happy to get it going in the right direction again today. Had a few lucky breaks. I had a few unlucky spots as well, so you know, but overall pretty happy.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Can you talk about those lucky breaks? Where were they?

STEVE ALLAN: I think, well, just at the end there, 16, I pulled my putt, and it still caught the hole and went in. On 17 I drove it in the fairway bunker, and I caught it a bit thin. It just skimmed the top and got out. It didn't hit the lip, which would have hurt, because I finished those holes badly yesterday. I made a double on 17. A couple of those were nice to get away with and keep, like I said, the round going.

Q. So the feelings on the back nine, coming in, these two birdies almost at the end and finishing par on this tough 18 hole, no?

STEVE ALLAN: Yep.

Q. How much energy does it give you?

STEVE ALLAN: You know, you're in a position where you've got a chance tomorrow. That's all you could ever ask for. I think the leaderboard was getting pretty bunched up there. There's a lot of good players. So you'll have to play well.

You know, it's one of those courses that depending on the wind and the conditions, you might want need that low of a score. So you've just got to kind of keep your head down and keep grinding and hopefully get some things go your way at the right time.

Q. How much do you enjoy playing with the wind? It looks like it's coming tomorrow.

STEVE ALLAN: Does it? I haven't looked yet. I think the wind is great if you're playing well. It separates everyone. If you're not quite playing well, it could be hard work. I think on this course it will be hard work because with such small areas on the greens to aim to, it could make it pretty difficult if it gets very windy.

Q. You mentioned that it's starting to get bunched up. I think I counted ten players within three shots of the top. How does one break out of that group tomorrow?

STEVE ALLAN: Look, I think you've just got to play well. I think sometimes if you try too hard to break out, you don't do anything so I've just got to start tomorrow and just play well. Just keep my head down.

You know, you never know how a round turns out. Half the time you have a bad start, you turn it into a good round. You know, you get a hot start, you end up coming back to the field. I think you have to keep your head down and play as good as you can.

I think the course makes it difficult to get too far ahead of yourself, because really even the easy holes you could make a bogie very quickly. There's not many easy holes out there. Even the short ones are tricky.

So I think you've just got to stay in the moment and just play well and just hope that you are right there at the end and give yourself a chance.

You know, particularly 17, what a great hole coming down the stretch of a tournament. You've got a lot of risk/reward there. But I think you'd have to just see how you are in that moment, depending what your strategy is.

Q. You go from risk/reward at 17 to 18 and all of the undulation there. How tough is that going to be?

STEVE ALLAN: That's a pretty solid hole. It helps it was a little downwind today, so it doesn't make it quite as hard. You can get down there. I didn't hit -- didn't crush my drive. Just hit a little bit of a fairway finder and only had an 8-iron in. So it wasn't playing difficult to hit the green, but like you said, the slopes around the green are tricky, so the pin was in a bit tricky spot today.

Not sure where it's going to be tomorrow, but I think if that hole praise into the wind, it would be really tough. Yeah, I don't know. We'll see how it goes.
