LIV GOLF MEXICO CITY

April 17, 2026

Tom McKibbin

Mexico City, Mexico

Club de Golf Chapultepec

Legion XIII

Quick Quotes

TOM McKIBBIN: Very good round. Sort of a hot spell in two bursts. I had three birdies in a row twice, and then the rest were kind of solid pars and stuff like that. Overall very happy with the first two days, and yeah, hopefully I can continue to play sort of similar golf the next two.

Q. You guys obviously celebrated the trophy here last year. You have a very healthy lead after 36 holes. Is there a course for horse in terms of, like, an entire team?

TOM McKIBBIN: I don't know. Yeah, we're pretty deep under par at the minute. I think it's a golf course that if you play well, you can score nicely, and if you don't play well, it's obviously very hard to score.

Again, yeah, I think obviously we've all started to play good at the same time, and helped build up a nice lead.

Q. Did you guys have any kind of team discussion going into this week, especially because this is the longest drought Legion XIII has ever had?

TOM McKIBBIN: Nope, no discussion. Just go out and play golf.

Q. Can you go into why it's difficult to play here at Chapultepec?

TOM McKIBBIN: Yeah, it's obviously quite a tight golf course, quite tricky off the tee, and obviously the altitude, getting the yardages right, distance control is very tricky. It's all very confusing. You hit shots that you're like, where has that came from, out of nowhere. It's just a very difficult golf course with all of the added elements that you have to take into consideration, as well.

I think overall that makes it quite complicated.

Q. What about the people here?

TOM McKIBBIN: Yeah, yeah, great. I mean, this is my second time coming, and yeah, it's always been great out there, good support. I feel the weekend will be even better.

Q. What will be the challenge for the next days?

TOM McKIBBIN: Again, I think sort of the same challenges as the first two days. You're just going out there to try to keep the ball in the fairway, hit some good approach shots and sort of try to miss in the right spots. I think it's a golf course that if you miss it on the right side of the fairway or the green, you can sort of scramble around versus if you miss the opposite side you can be in a lot of trouble, so just trying to keep the ball up the right side of the hole and go from there.

Q. From this position right now, how do you face mentally going into the weekend?

TOM McKIBBIN: Yeah, I guess it's just another two days of golf. I've played a lot of golf tournaments now, so just going to go out there and try and play the same way I have been the last couple of days. I figure it'll be very difficult, but looking forward to the challenge.

Q. How much was last week in terms of a learning experience for you?

TOM McKIBBIN: Yeah, it was massive. I think it's the first -- it's one of the first tournaments I've played that I got that sort of buzz and got to watch it on TV after playing in it. Definitely a big sort of learning environment. I think it was definitely a golf course that the more times you play, the more experience you have, sort of a little bit of a guess goes into it.

But yeah, I think anytime you get to play a major championship, it exposes small flaws in your game. Yeah, you definitely learn a lot and leave the week sort of -- if it's a good week or a bad week, sort of learning something about yourself.
