THE MODERATOR: Good afternoon, everyone. Carlos, welcome back to Mexico. Tell us a little bit about what it's like to be the host team, what it means to you to come to Mexico and represent Torque here.
CARLOS ORTIZ: I'm happy to be back here in Mexico. The truth is, it's always nice to play at home and play in a good tournament, and this one checks both boxes. The food, the people, the course, everything, really. I'm happy to be here.
Q. Carlos, as a member of Torque, one of the teams with the most podium finishes last season, if I'm not mistaken, you had six, and you're up to two this season. Tell us, what's the key to Torque consistently finishing in the top three?
CARLOS ORTIZ: Well, playing well. You have to play well to stay up there. But it also helps to have good players. And I think we have a great team.
Q. Hi, Carlos. Just wanted to ask how you're doing after competing in Augusta.
CARLOS ORTIZ: A little beat up, but fine. I'm really happy to be here. Obviously, Augusta wasn't -- if we look at the results, maybe it wasn't the best, but it was a good experience and I really enjoyed it.
Q. Hi, Carlos. Last year you told us a little about how you felt when you were on the 18th hole, and you received great support from the Mexican crowd. I wanted to ask, what are your expectations this year regarding the crowd?
And above all, you were in the Top Ten in the first two rounds; the last one didn't go so well for you. How do you stay consistent, now that we know there's one more round to play?
CARLOS ORTIZ: Speaking of expectations, I don't have any expectations of the crowd. The truth is, they're always incredible. It's a beautiful hole. The truth is, people recognize our hard work and effort. And well, that's it. One more round. We have to play well. When there were three, we had to play all three rounds well. Now there are four. We have to play them all well.
Q. Dustin Johnson talked a bit about the impact of players like you, of Dustin's caliber, and LIV Golf coming to Mexico in Latin America. As a representative of Latin America, with Torque, which is made up entirely of Latin Americans, what do you think that impact is? What message does this send globally, that good golf is played on this side of the planet, too?
CARLOS ORTIZ: I think hosting events of this size in any sport is incredibly important. I believe they help the sport grow overall.
Speaking of golf in general, I think that us coming to play and being here with the kids, so they can see us, helps a lot.
It happened to me when I was a kid at tournaments. Seeing Lorena inspired me a lot to believe that I could do it. And I hope that's what we're doing. At the end of the day, it's part of what we do, giving back a little. And I think the way we give back is by inspiring new generations.
Q. Hi, Carlos. You're going to tee off alongside Bryson DeChambeau. What does it mean to you to be paired with one of the best players on the tour?
CARLOS ORTIZ: Well, the truth is that playing with another player is going to be fun. He hits the ball hard. And then he goes all out out there, hits some pretty spectacular shots. So it's going to be good to watch.
Q. What has it been like playing with Abraham so far this season?
CARLOS ORTIZ: Well, the truth is we've always been close. And having him on the team feels natural. We spent our first two years on the LIV Tour together. Then we were apart for a year. And now, here we are together again. He's a great friend, really. He's a really fun guy. And yeah, it helps to have someone like that in the locker room. We've really enjoyed having Abraham on the Torque team.
Q. Carlos, you and Abe have been friends for a long time, obviously Olympic teammates. What's one thing you've learned about Abe that maybe you didn't know a few years ago?
CARLOS ORTIZ: I mean, I've known Abe since we were nine, ten -- I've known him. He's just a good guy. I enjoy being around him. I don't think I've learned anything new. When you know somebody that long, there's not really much to hide, especially when you play golf. It's just been fun being around him. I would say having him on the team definitely has been fun. He's a very funny guy. He's a good guy to have as a teammate. He's lighthearted and just brings a lot of jokes to the table. It's always nice when you have somebody that's always in a good mood.
Q. Is he more of a joke teller than you are?
CARLOS ORTIZ: Yeah, I guess people from the north, they always kind of speak in a way that -- things with two senses. He's just a fun guy to be around.
