ROLEX MONTE-CARLO MASTERS

April 12, 2026

Simone Vagnozzi

Principality of Monaco

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. Hello, and congratulations. We understand this is the first clay Masters 1000 title for Jannik, a special landmark in his journey. What are you the most proud of as, I would say, the technical team leader today in what he made on the court?

SIMONE VAGNOZZI: For sure, we are really happy, because of course was one of our goal of this year, winning a big title on clay. There is no better to start like this.

Today I think the most happy is that after Miami and Indian Wells, after such a month, really tough, he came here, and doing all the tournament day by day he was improving his game. Today was not easy with the conditions. It was really windy. But he felt every point.

The match was really close, so tactically he played a really good match today. Was not easy with the wind, but he played really, really a solid match.

Q. Congratulations. Can you explain the transition after Miami? What did you do especially to focus directly on clay? Was it a routine thing to work so well and so quick?

SIMONE VAGNOZZI: Yeah, we start on Tuesday. He took two days off, and on Tuesday we start a little bit to feel the court, the sliding on the court, because the movement is the one that is more different from hard court to clay court.

And then we start to play a little bit with more spin, open the angle a little bit more, tried sometimes some with dropshots, some with kick. So day by day, we improve all this tactical and movement stuff. Then we try on court in the match.

So we are really happy, because I think from after the first two matches, he start to feel better the game, more dropshots, more variation with the height of the ball, with the serve. So we are really, really impressed about his level here.

Q. Jannik said that after Doha, he made a lot of work with you in California, I think. It was probably the basics of what he achieved at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte-Carlo. Yesterday I asked him what he did during this period. We have his version. I would like your version. What did you do?

SIMONE VAGNOZZI: So I wasn't in Indian Wells. Darren and Umberto and the rest of the team was there. I think they pushed really hard.

For sure the block that they did together was really important. And, you know, I think the confidence that he got in Indian Wells, winning the title, was really, really good for him. This kind of champion, they feel the victory, feel the trophy. It's really important. They need. So the confidence that he earned in Indian Wells and Miami was really important for this title here.
