Quick Quotes
Q. Good playing, Jordan.
JORDAN SPIETH: Thank you.
Q. (No microphone.)
JORDAN SPIETH: Yeah, it was -- you know, I feel like the holes that the greens need to be softer are softer, and then it was let go on the others kind of like Thursday.
But you can't have it like Thursday with where the pins are on six downwind and stuff like that. So they have it at a playable spot, but you have differences in how firm some of the greens are compared to others, and you just trust that they know what they're doing, which it's easier to trust here than anywhere else.
Q. Wind a factor today?
JORDAN SPIETH: It was swirling a bit. So, yeah, I mean, I'm always somebody that likes a constant 10 to 15 because I just grew up with that. When it's moving all over that's the tricky part for me. It was -- it should kind of stay where it's at now. The thing is when you get on the back nine it gets down in the hills and trees and it'll just be ten miles in your face when it's actually down off the left and you just have to sit there and believe it.
It's just a really hard thing to do on the holes around Amen Corner because of all the trouble around.
Q. (No microphone.)
JORDAN SPIETH: I wouldn't bet. You know, somebody gets four or so on the front, and they could probably shoot six. Hideki behind me was maybe the low round out there. But, no, I don't think it's -- I think yesterday was the scoring day versus today.
Q. Assuming you're going to Hilton Head next week.
JORDAN SPIETH: Yeah.
Q. You feel like coming after a day like today you have more giddy to your step going there next week?
JORDAN SPIETH: I think I just birdieing 18 and making a putt makes me feel that way no matter what I shot. I've been playing the same way that I played today every week. I just made three putts outside of six feet today and I didn't any of the other days.
So I just started to kind of try to be a little more athletic on the greens. I think I left 20 something putts short this week, and so, no, what I'm trying to say is I don't think that today made any difference.
I feel like I'm playing great golf. I don't feel like my results are showing it. All you got to do when that happens is stay the course. The results end up coming. Sometimes the game takes a while to pay off.
Q. Anything specifically you want to work on?
JORDAN SPIETH: Yeah, just back to putting. I was on a really good putting stretch from the west coast through the first couple Florida events, and then last two weeks probably couple of my worst putting results that I've ever had.
And the stroke, my stroke felt clean minus a couple of them, better than bad putting times. It just last week I got a little off in the first round and the hole just looked small, and I've tried to make it look bigger every day since.
Just didn't get there. So I'm going to spend a lot of time putting next week and probably putting from shorter range just to see a lot of putts go in and believe the hole is bigger than the ball.
Q. Mental issue?
JORDAN SPIETH: Not really, I mean...
Q. You want to mentally see it go in.
JORDAN SPIETH: Just the way the game goes. I wouldn't even say it's -- I was still standing over it saying this is my line and speed. When I hit it I thought I hit a good putt. It was low and short or high and firm or a couple of them went in.
Just I mean, I think if -- sometimes I wonder if early in the first round a couple of the ones that were -- that I probably should have made went in, you know, who knows what the tournament looks like.
I hit it better than the year I won and I hit it way better than any of the second places or fourths that I hit it. Probably the best I ever hit it here and I typically putt these greens very well.
That part is a bit frustrating. Again, putting can be streaky so just get on the right streak ask go try to win next week.
Q. Have a reset for Hilton Head, difference in courses?
JORDAN SPIETH: Yeah, very different course. I like them both a lot.
Q. (Regarding restoration at Hilton Head.)
JORDAN SPIETH: I saw Davis. I've seen some pictures. But that's about the most I've seen it of.
Looks like it's going to be really good. I think he -- I don't think he did a ton but he kind of put some trees where we were getting bailed out on some spots and maybe updated greens and bunkers. Should be awesome.
