Quick Quotes
Q. Charl, so watching you, it was sore to see how close so many of your putts came. Talk about the 12th.
CHARL SCHWARTZEL: Yeah, basically pitched in the hole. I don't know. It sort of sums up my week.
Look, I've had the privilege to have the ultimate happiness, yeah. Not a lot of people will know what that feels like, but this golf course also burns harder than most. You know, I think there's a big discrepancy between what it gives and what it takes, yeah.
Like I said, I've been fortunate enough to feel what that feels like, but the last sort of couple of years, yeah, I feel like I played okay, but it's been taking a lot. There is small margins.
So many one meter this way or that way or a couple and it ends up being a good tournament versus a very average one.
Q. Instead of a hole-in-one you walk away with a three.
CHARL SCHWARTZEL: Look, they don't play good tee to green today like I've been, but just a lot of things going over the edges and not a lot of stuff go your way, and like I said, this golf course then punishes you hard.
Q. How difficult is it to stay focused then? Is there ever a point where you just say, look, it's not working today?
CHARL SCHWARTZEL: No, you always try. You don't want to also embarrass yourself. You want to still and try to play off decent, but it's hard to play when you're not in contention, and you are just playing at the back of the field. It's not the best feeling.
Q. Anything you can do to overcome it?
CHARL SCHWARTZEL: I would love to have a few better breaks. No, look, I putted the short putter today, and it actually felt quite good. The last two years have been with the long putter, yeah. Struggled the long putter on these greens.
So I definitely think short putter is the way on these greens for me. I putt much better with that. So that's a positive.
Q. People say that, you know, the amount of luck you have and the amount of unluck is kind of equal. Would you say --
CHARL SCHWARTZEL: It's hard to tell that around this golf course. I think over a career you're going to have a lot more bad luck on this course, or you're going to feel that way.
Like I say, I was fortunate to have that one week off where things did go my way.
Q. It looks like a little that the course takes some energy (indiscernible)?
CHARL SCHWARTZEL: Look, that's what it is. It's momentum. It takes it away from you very quickly. Guys up on the board have got -- obviously play good too, but they do have things that go their way, and it keeps you lifted.
Q. What are you going to do? Relax?
CHARL SCHWARTZEL: Yeah. Go and have a burger with my son in the champions locker room.
