Quick Quotes
Q. How would you assess your round today?
KRISTOFFER REITAN: Very, very pleased. Did a lot of good stuff today, so just very pleased with that. What an occasion to do it as well. It's really cool.
You know, onto the weekend and try to -- you know, there is new challenges ahead, but definitely really happy with the round today.
Q. That stretch of four straight birdies, take me through that and how you gained some momentum.
KRISTOFFER REITAN: Well, I think it all maybe started with 11, the second shot there. Hit a pretty gutsy shot over the water there, so it was -- yeah, that shot maybe added a little bit of belief.
I'm just trying to follow my game plan and then shot comes off good and then you've got a birdie opportunity.
But, yeah, it was a good stretch with quite a few good shots but also some good putts.
Q. First time playing the Masters. How many times have you actually played Augusta National before this week?
KRISTOFFER REITAN: So I played two times. It was right before The PLAYERS. Came up here for a visit. That definitely helped. Came strongly recommended as well from my fellow countryman, Viktor and a few other guys.
Yeah, I came up just to gain some familiarity with the course and with the place. Try to like calm down the nerves a little bit by doing that.
So felt like that was a good move. Yeah, only played like five or six full rounds now I guess.
Q. So there is a video produced on your Twitter page. You're asking if you could play any course for the rest of your life what would you be and you say Augusta National. Had you ever been here before answering that?
KRISTOFFER REITAN: No. When I answered that I had never been to Augusta ever. It's just the one course that always, yeah, just stands apart from everything else. Most unique place in the world to me, so that's why I gave that answer.
Q. When you were making the turn today, what was kind of your general -- I know you're going shot by shot, but what was your goal? Was it hang on and make the cut versus make four straight birdies?
KRISTOFFER REITAN: I tried my best not to think about -- or tried to stay away from the results-oriented mindset. Tried to be as process-oriented as I could, but obviously more it starts to work the -- or it gets increasingly difficult to keep doing that.
So that's what I found very difficult or more difficult towards the end. It's always going to be difficult. But yeah, so it just got increasingly difficult throughout the round. Yeah, that's kind of what's been going through my mind a little bit.
Q. Can you describe the feeling when the birdies are stacking on top of each other? Do you kind of blackout?
KRISTOFFER REITAN: A little bit. You exceed your own expectations. I've been trying to set the bar fairly low this week. It's my first week here. So it's just, yeah, the point -- you get to the point where you exceed your own expectations, and for me that really doesn't happen that much because I already expect quite a lot of myself.
But that's obviously a good feeling but a weird feeling as well. So, yeah, something different to handle.
Q. It's been over 40 years since a Masters rookie has been able to win. Coming into this week was that on your mind and what would it mean to potentially break that drought?
KRISTOFFER REITAN: No, I'm not thinking about that at all. Way too much golf to be played. Yeah, as you say I'm a rookie as well. I'm a rookie on the PGA TOUR. Just trying to find my feet and my game as well.
Yeah, I'm pretty humble in that regard. I feel like I've still got a lot of work to do to become a better golf player. Just try to do that day by day and try to learn each step of the way.
Q. You talked about being a rookie. Maybe not a lot of people in this country who know you yet. Can you give us a little bit about your background. Norway is a famous for cross country skiers. Did you get into that and how do you get into golf?
KRISTOFFER REITAN: Well, yeah, cross country skiing, that's a big one for sure. But, no, I mean, for me, my dad, we've had like a space or a house that we've gone to for holidays in Spain. He picked up golf when I was fairly young and wanted to bring me on to the course and ever since it's just been golf ever since.
So, yeah, there was one point I was kind of going into between if I wanted to play golf or soccer as you guys call it. Yeah, just ended up picking golf at a fairly early age, and that's been my entire life for a long time.
