Quick Quotes
Q. Let's talk a little bit about 12, one of the key holes here at Augusta National. Walk me through your experience today on the 12th hole.
JACKSON HERRINGTON: Well, I was feeling good actually. I just knew I needed to make par and then go find a birdie somewhere coming in. I made a good swing. I was trying to hit it, you know, 20 feet left of edge just the middle of the green.
It was kind of tricky, because on 11 I had 185, and I'm trying to lay it 180, and then I feel a breeze into my face. Then I get to 12, and I'm sitting there, and all flags switch down. I don't know. It was kind of hard to trust it. I mean, I committed to it, landed back edge I guess, and popped in the back bunker.
I thought it was an easy bunker shot. I didn't think it was too hard. I just had to lay a little short and let it roll up. If it didn't, I was going to make bogey. I knew I had two par-5s coming up.
I don't know if I can say something bad about the bunkers, but no, it was not my best there. Then hit a good wedge shot and just underread the putt. Technically from the tee I've never hit in the water.
Q. You're not wrong.
JACKSON HERRINGTON: So it's a good track record.
Q. What will you takeaway the most this week, just the entirety of the experience and how it will kind of shape you moving forward?
JACKSON HERRINGTON: Yeah, I didn't hit great off the tee this week, but I don't know, I felt like if I have an off week even here at probably the hardest golf course in the world right now, yeah, I think I can hang with these guys even though I didn't do it this week. I didn't put myself in position to do it, but yeah, I'm there.
I'm not as far from leading this tournament as I think I am, but I'm going to come back and win this tournament someday, so yeah.
Q. Did the reality of coming here to Augusta National competing in the Masters match the expectations that you had growing up and watching this tournament all those years?
JACKSON HERRINGTON: Yeah, I think it exceeded my expectations. I had a blast. There's people all over the place watching. It was kind of funny on six when I made it long right, and I just tried to keep it on the green, and I gave them a little reaction. The crowd went crazy.
Yeah, it's good to be in an atmosphere like that and kind of get the vibe that I see on TV every week. I don't know. It was a special experience, and I can't wait to be back someday. So hopefully next year.
Q. You said that you don't think that you're quite that far off than what it may appear to be to being on top of the leaderboard here. What gives you the optimism that that's the case?
JACKSON HERRINGTON: I'm still 19, so I mean, I'm not even in my 20s yet. Still a teenager. You know, I made it here, so that's something in and of itself. I was going to make the cut until 12. I am confident in that.
But yeah, I feel like keep doing what I've been doing and, you know, mature and learn from this week. I'll be back and will be having one of these green jackets on. So, yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to the future and what's to come.
Q. How do you spend the rest of the weekend? Got a lot of family, a lot of friends?
JACKSON HERRINGTON: Well, I'm not sure if I'm playing on Monday in the tournament or not. That's a Webb question. I know one thing: I'm going to eat after this. I caught eight bass last night, so we're going to try to catch nine and beat my record.
But most importantly, we've got to get Steven on one, putting coach. He hasn't caught one. He caught three the first day, but he went out last night and didn't catch any, so I'm staying out there until he catches a fish.
Q. Will you spend any more time in the Crow's Nest before the weekend is done, because you have privileges here?
JACKSON HERRINGTON: I don't know. I might. I'm going to think about it. That would be pretty cool, but yeah, maybe if I'm allowed to come out and practice, I'll be out here tomorrow. It's the best place on earth. I know that.
Yeah, it was a great week, and can't wait to be back.
