MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 10, 2026

Tyrrell Hatton

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Tyrrell, very impressive round today, especially tee to green. How do you process with this Masters?

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, I mean, today was a great day. Actually walking up 18 I was pretty confident that I couldn't mess it up enough that I wouldn't shoot my best score here.

I mean, naturally I tried with a three-putt, so that was disappointing, to say the least. But, yeah, I mean, I certainly would have taken 6-under before I went out.

Q. Tyrrell, so many players have said it requires patience on this golf course right now. Based your round today, does that mean you're the most patient player out here?

TYRRELL HATTON: I mean, quite clearly. No, I mean, I feel like the course this morning the greens played -- they were softer than where they were at at the end of yesterday's round. I imagine the guys this afternoon or playing all afternoon it's only going to get firmer and faster to a point of, I guess, what we experienced yesterday. So I guess I made the most of the greens being a little bit softer this morning.

Yes, I gave myself lots of opportunities. I would have liked to have seen more putts go in. I don't feel like I actually holed that many putts certainly outside sort of seven, eight feet.

Hopefully I can do a bit better on that front over the weekend, but overall it was a good day.

Q. Did you find a spark coming into this week or in the lead-up?

TYRRELL HATTON: No. I mean, I've been -- see, I had two weeks off after South Africa, and I feel like my swing was getting in a better spot. So it was nice to hit the ball like I did today. Hopefully I can take that into the weekend.

I know it's going to be tough, so the more greens I can hit and hopefully hit it on the right spots on those greens, then it will make my life a little bit easier.

Q. Do you feel as though you're popular with golf fans around the world, and if so, what do you think it is about you that makes them root for you?

TYRRELL HATTON: I don't know if I'm popular or not. I think there's many other players that are far more popular than me, and that's fine. People, I guess, will either like how I am on the golf course or they won't. I won't lose sleep over it.

But maybe they see themselves in me and how they play golf at the weekend and how they react, but that's for them to judge, I guess where.

Q. Do you feel you had the love of the patrons today?

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah. I mean, everyone is very respectful here. I think even if they dislike you, they enjoy watching golf, and they'll clap for good shots. That's just the way it is.

Q. Over the years you haven't seemed too keen on this course at times. It doesn't always reward a good shot. It isn't always fair. Has your opinion of the course changed since then at all? What's your relationship like with it now?

TYRRELL HATTON: Well, I think my results have got better the last few years, which is nice. Yeah, there's spots around the golf course that are very difficult. I don't shy away from saying things, so yeah, that's just how I am, and I won't change.

Q. Tyrrell, seventh was better today than yesterday. When you talk about patience, that happened yesterday, is that an example of you showing patience or accepting that --

TYRRELL HATTON: No, I was absolutely headless on seven yesterday, because I had gone from essentially having a very good birdie opportunity to not only has it gone back in the bunker at speed, it's gone onto the flat, and then it's semi-buried itself. I was, like, sick, I've got no chance. Not good.

Q. You were able to come back from it.

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, I still had, what, 11 holes to go, so you move onto the next hole. As headless as I would be, I still go and try my best. That's all you can ever do. And ended up being a not too bad day. I didn't think 2-over was that bad yesterday afternoon.

Q. You mentioned your results getting better here. Is it learning the greens? Is it learning where to miss? What do you think the difference is?

TYRRELL HATTON: I would say over the last few years I've generally driven the ball much better here, which has been great. Yes, you kind of know where you can and can't miss, but it's also, like, you need to try and play your own game.

There was too many times in the first few years where you watch it on TV as a kid, you kind of, oh, if you hit it there to that pin, it sort of feeds in. So then when you try to hit it to the slope rather than being naturally if you are more of an aggressive player, which most of the time I am, I would hit more towards the pin. But now I was aiming at slope, and I pulled it and missed the slope, and then you end up in a whole world of trouble.

Obviously you only see the great shots on TV, and it kind of at times seemed to make it look easy when it's far from.

Q. What was your earliest Masters memory?

TYRRELL HATTON: I mean, was it when -- was it '97 Tiger won?

Q. Yes.

TYRRELL HATTON: I mean, I would have been 5, but I would have -- I sort of remember seeing highlights and stuff and falling in love with golf. I think everyone my age was naturally drawn to Tiger. Yeah, I mean, it was pretty special what he's done around this place and in golf.

Q. Do you expect it to be as difficult over the weekend as you've ever seen it here?

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah. I imagine it will --

Q. Why?

TYRRELL HATTON: I think the greens are just going to get firmer and faster, which is quite a scary prospect, because I feel like the 15th green can't really get much firmer than what it is.

Yeah, so it's going to be tough. There's always going to be someone that deals with it very well, and they'll be putting on a green jacket on Sunday. Yeah, I'll just try and do the best I can and see if I get a bit of luck for a change.

Q. As you were going through the round and your score kept improving and improving, how do you strike the balance between a level of excitement or just, like, feel good about the scoring versus the calmness you need for each individual shot going forward to keep that momentum going?

TYRRELL HATTON: I would feel like it almost feels -- for me it felt like a bit of a surprise I actually got it to 7-under around this golf course with how I've previously struggled.

So, yeah, I mean, I was obviously enjoying it. It was nice to be at that score and not hacking it round and over par like I generally do around here. I guess it was nice for a change.

Q. What's the adjustment or the challenge going from LIV events to a major to the Masters?

TYRRELL HATTON: There's no adjustment. It's another tournament that you're at. You go on to the next hole, and you try your best. Wherever you play, whatever the tournament is, you're always giving it your best, and you're trying to prepare in a way to give yourself a chance to win the tournament.

I don't think anyone that's playing this week would feel -- would change anything. That would be my guess, but yeah, every tournament you play, you're trying to win. This week is no different in that sense.

Q. Where does this round rank tee to green for you given the course, given that it's a major, all 18 greens?

TYRRELL HATTON: I mean, yeah, it was certainly one of the better rounds I've had in a major. Actually, I don't really look at it that way. It was another round of golf. Yeah, it was nice to have a good day, but that means nothing when you step on the first tee tomorrow and we still have 36 holes to go.

I would love to be walking up 18 tomorrow at 7-under, and hopefully I don't three-putt the last again and I'll come off a little bit happier.

Q. Is this a course that you've had over the years that you've had to come here and think a little bit differently coming in and try to stay calmer, try to stay more patient?

TYRRELL HATTON: No, I definitely don't stay calmer or more patient this week. If anything, I am probably more on edge.

Yeah, I mean, just take each shot as it comes and see what we end up with.
