Quick Quotes
Q. (No microphone.)
COREY CONNERS: Yeah, yesterday I was harping on driving it poorly and needing to do that better today. Felt like I hit a lot of good tee balls. Honestly gave myself looks, just wasn't able to convert the putts. Kind of had -- didn't have the best chances, but put myself in as good a spot as I could on some of the greens. Just wasn't able to roll them in.
Was just a little bit tentative or light on the speed. Wasn't thrilled with how I was rolling it. But felt like my game was pretty solid from tee-to-green. Just left a bunch out there on the greens.
Q. (Regarding pace of greens.)
COREY CONNERS: Yeah, a little bit. There was a few putts I thought were going to be a little bit faster. Had a few funny ones today where had uphill putts that break a lot. It's hard to hit those. Playing a considerable amount break I found it hard to hit those hard enough to get to the hole.
Typically when you're aiming way outside the hole you kind of have to feel like you're dying it in. Was just a little bit light there. The theme was just being a little bit light. Things weren't quite rolling as fast as I maybe thought.
Q. ... 13 and 15 on TV you almost were like shocked. Put your hand on your face at one point.
COREY CONNERS: Yeah, it's tough. I wanted one to go in so bad to try and get some momentum going.
You know, was right on the edge on 11, 12, 13 hit a really nice putt; 15 as well. 15 wasn't my best putt. I certainly like that one over.
16 hit another good one that was kind of breaking and just died on the edge.
So, yeah, 17, again, par saving putt was right in the middle just short. Just some of the putts was a little bit light on the speed.
Surprised me.
Q. Driver today versus yesterday, was it just working the range and you dialed in or did you put in a new driver today?
COREY CONNERS: Yeah, I did switch drivers. My backup driver. Hit a few on the range with it last night and it was going where I wanted.
So, yeah, was happy with how I drove it. Didn't hit a great one on 18 but can't really think of any others that I want back.
Q. Is it a different model?
COREY CONNERS: Exact same. Just fresh head. Maybe hit it in the same spot every time and maybe just wear down the face hitting a lot of balls.
Couple yesterday, felt like pretty good swings and surprised me where the ball went.
So, exact same.
Q. How would you describe it today?
COREY CONNERS: Yeah, I think playing in the morning there was certainly opportunities, and like we've talked about, I gave myself a ton of great chances. I just wasn't able to convert the birdie putts.
I think the course is, you know -- it will reward really good shots but certainly penalizes shots that aren't really well-struck.
There is opportunities for -- there was opportunities for myself and for the other players playing today. Can expect some birdies with good shots but need to be spot on.
Q. (No microphone.)
COREY CONNERS: Yeah, the last couple holes, but was trying to -- my goal is to get back to the right side of par today, and gave myself enough chances certainly. Was maybe a little, yeah, a little steery on the last couple.
Hit a really good approach into 17. At that point was kind of trying to limit the damage a tiny bit. You can't have that attitude or mindset out here.
You'll make bogeys pretty quick.
