MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 9, 2026

Michael Brennan

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. First round.

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Uh-huh.

Q. What were the nerves like opening tee shot first of all?

MICHAEL BRENNAN: I was a little nervous. I actually think I was more nervous Monday playing -- what side did I play on Monday? Off the front in the practice round. I don't know. Just kind of wasn't really prepared for it.

For today it was kind of tournament mode and I felt fine.

Q. Got 16 looking good. And then --

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah.

Q. But you still held together. Overall talk about your round.

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, hit the ball solid. Drove it great. Hit some good irons. Wedges weren't great. A little loose with the wedges.

Made a couple decent putts, but for the most part kind of not very committed on the greens. I felt I left a ton of uphill putts short. Maybe a little afraid of greens being so fast.

But when you're uphill they're still not very fast so you still have to hit them, so it was a bummer I three-putted a couple time today.

Overall pretty pleased.

Q. Been here since Sunday. What's the best part about this place in your mind?

MICHAEL BRENNAN: All the fans. That's fun. I like playing in front of the fans.

Q. Patrons.

MICHAEL BRENNAN: The patrons. Thank you. The condition of the course is incredible. I would say those are probably two favorite things.

Q. Obviously in awe of being able to play here and all that stuff, but once you settled into your round what was the biggest challenge out there and how much can this golf course just wear you out?

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, just trying to stay patient. You can hit some pretty good shots and be in the wrong spot and really have nothing because the greens are so fast and getting pretty firm. Doesn't matter how good of a chip you hit. Sometimes you're in an impossible spot.

And so a lot of that is just managing making sure you're in those situations as little as possible, and when you are getting them just trying to stay disciplined and playing the proper shot from there.

I felt like I did a good job of. I didn't execute from position below the hole on a couple greens, which kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Q. Going into the next round what the reset and the plan for tomorrow?

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, probably go to the gym. Maybe hit a few uphill putts and get a good night's sleep and do it again.

Q. Fastest greens you've ever played on?

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, probably up there. U.S. Open in '23 was the only other major I played in and those were pretty quick as well. Yeah, these are good.

Q. We were talking with your win that got you really on the PGA TOUR.

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Uh-huh.

Q. Do you think back start about that how you life changed? You were supposed to be on Korn Ferry.

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, it's totally different. I love that I'm playing here this week. It's incredible. It's been my dream to win the Masters and to have chance is really cool.

I'm glad I'm not playing on the Korn Ferry TOUR.

Q. One more thing. What's been the best advice from someone about this week that you've gotten?

MICHAEL BRENNAN: Have fun. Don't try to grind too hard because the course is tough and you'll just get beat up.

Take the punches and move on.

Q. What time you go tomorrow?

MICHAEL BRENNAN: 9:19.
