Quick Quotes
Q. How tough was it out there?
HARRY HALL: I think it was that tough. Definitely changed, though, compared to the practice rounds how firm it was around the greens, and the greens definitely got harder, but there are some opportunities out there.
Q. How does it feel like when you are at 1-under? Are you starting to think then that you can do something?
HARRY HALL: No, no, not really. I was 1-under through four holes, and then missed a little one on six, hit a poor shot on seven. Still having a decent round, and then make a big mistake on 11. I should have just chipped out to be short of the green there, and I put it in a terrible spot and haven't done very well.
Q. And the 17th?
HARRY HALL: On 17 I hit the wrong club. I thought the wind was into, and it wasn't.
Q. First round at the Masters, though. What do you take out of that?
HARRY HALL: I need to get a lot better.
Q. What are you going to do now?
HARRY HALL: I'm probably going to put -- I'm going to change my driver. I'm going to put two drivers in play tomorrow, different ones. I'm putting a new putter in play and going to figure out on the range.
I don't think I spin my irons enough either. I went into a spinnier ball this week, but I still, you know, can't stop it on a dime like I need to. So I probably need to add off to my irons or do something to compete in these majors.
Q. How important would it have been -- I mean, you were so short on the little bit missing on the 18th for your birdie.
HARRY HALL: Yeah, I didn't putt very good today. I've been struggling with that putter actually. I've used this for six years, and I've used a Spider for a couple of weeks in a row, and I tried to really give it a good chance to be in the bag this week. Just something about lining it up that isn't quite as comfortable when the greens are really fast. It's a bit slidey too, so yeah.
Q. How do you go into the second round? Do you have to go aggressive, do you think, to try to make the cut, or are you just going to play your game?
HARRY HALL: I think it played a lot firmer and faster today. You need to hit it far off the tee. I didn't think you did, but as soon as the greens got firm, you need to hit it as far as possible to have less club in, simple as that.
I fade the driver that I've got in the bag at the moment, and I was driving back to the mini just to draw it off the tee on some of these fairways. When you give up 30 yards, you're not really being very aggressive.
