MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 9, 2026

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Rasmus, (indiscernible). Such a good display.

RASMUS NEERGAARD-PETERSEN: I told my caddie, Brian on the first, I'm like this is -- he had hit it over the green. I'm like, okay, this is just perfect. It was brilliant all day. I love it.

Again, even holes out there where he knows like he's not going to get there in two, like 18 and 11, probably two of the toughest holes out here, put it out in the fairway right in play, just right of the green, up and down on both of them. How brilliant is that?

Q. Seems like nowadays guys like ramping up the spin on chips; whereas seems like he almost plays for a little more run-out. Is that something you noticed?

RASMUS NEERGAARD-PETERSEN: Yeah, I notice -- you can see his practice, he's super, super shallow. It's like just going back and forth pretty quickly. It's almost like you're just tossing the ball into the green with so much touch. It's brilliant to watch.

Q. Can you just speak to the danger of pressing out here?

RASMUS NEERGAARD-PETERSEN: Yeah, I mean, it's just so easy to put yourself -- even you can hit a good drive and it's so easy to put yourself in a bad position where all of a sudden you're really like -- you're basically playing just to make an easy bogey and give yourself an outside look for par.

Had couple par-5s on the back nine where you could probably lay up, but at the time I was like, it felt like I just needed to get something going.

I mean, the one I hit in the water on 15 was actually -- I was surprised it didn't get there. I executed that pretty good. It's easy to be hindsight thinking it's too much risk.

Again, at the same time, if you lay it up -- I could only lay it up over to the right, and that's a really tough wedge shot, as we saw in our group.

I thought I had enough club that even if it got all the way to the pin it would at least get on the green and just roll over. That's a lot more simple to deal with.

Q. Do you think about the Rory shot on 15 when you're in a similar situation or not really?

RASMUS NEERGAARD-PETERSEN: Well, I was walking up there and I'm like, it's going to be that kind of shot I have to hit. I just didn't -- needed about half a club more. It was hit fantastic. Just came up a little short.

Q. What is the -- in other sports trying harder, run faster, what's the difference between trying harder in the middle of the a golf round?

RASMUS NEERGAARD-PETERSEN: For me especially that's kind of one of my -- that's one of my downfalls sometimes, that I almost get to the point where I'm trying too hard instead of -- it's not necessarily -- sometimes you can see it by being overly aggressive.

Sometime it's trying to will it too much instead of letting it go. You can have especially out here putting-wise when you have big slopes and stuff, you can try too hard to make a putt instead of like that's my line, that's my read, that's the speed I want to hit it.

If I do that be okay with whatever happens, and that happens for me at times. Certainly happened a couple times out there today. I felt overall I didn't get the start I wanted in the start either. Extremely nervous on one. Been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember.

Felt like I did a pretty decent job just kind of keep putting one foot in front of the other. Excited for tomorrow. If I can keep rolling the putts like I have been today, like I felt like I rolled them really good, just didn't go in. I'm confident I'll make some more putts tomorrow.
