Quick Quotes
Q. The world of golf and the sports world, all of the world is excited about the Masters. Are you excited? How do you manage the emotions on the eve of the first round?
JON RAHM: This helps a lot for sure, to do something so out of the ordinary, right, on any event, especially in a major championship.
So this kind of let's you forget about things for a couple hours, have fun in the game, have fun on property before the tournament starts.
Like any other major event, there is no sense in avoiding the truth. We all know the importance of it. Just got to embrace it and go out there and play good golf.
Q. Because it looks to be a fast and firm golf course does that alter the bag this week?
JON RAHM: The golf course has had such good weather. It's in such good shape. With how much control they have over the agronomy here they can do whatever they want. They can make it as firm and difficult as they want, as soft as easy as they want.
Most likely going to go with firm and difficult. They're really good at managing the pace of the tournament to where somehow somebody is between 10- and 13-under. The last few years been really good at that.
I kind of hope they let it go a little bit in the other way and make it difficult, right? It's in such good shape and so healthy that they could make it one of those Masters where the winner is 6-, 7-under and it's perfect weather.
Q. Asked this of other players, when you come to a major championship like this, big event, how do you manage expectations internally?
JON RAHM: We all want to win, right? I think in this game a lot of the time you have to have some patience.
That might be the hardest thing to remind yourself, right? It's four days. Rory last year started with an even par round and ended up winning it.
I think there was a stat at one point that every time Tiger won he never shot less than 70 first round or something like that.
So you kind of can build up to it. I think Jack said it famously, tag long, tag along, tag along until you make your stride on the last 18 holes.
So you don't need to do anything special. I think it's where the expectations come in. You think you need to go shoot 5-under every day and this is not the case.
