MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 7, 2026

JJ Spaun

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. First off, you've been to a few of these now. If you were a patron, one day at the Masters, what does your day look like? What time are you getting here? What's the food you're trying? Things you want to see? I guess all of it.

JJ SPAUN: Yeah, first time here I'm getting here as soon as the gates open. Spend as much time as I can, especially when you have a perfect forecast like this week.

Probably try to set up somewhere on Amen Corner something like that, or the 18th. That would be great.

But, got enjoy the food. My favorite is the egg salad sandwiches. That's what I'm going with. Then the, what is it -- how much of beers now these days? Can't be more than $5.

Q. It's cheap, yeah.

JJ SPAUN: So, yeah, probably trying to take advantage of that price and have a lot of beers.

Q. Reckon you would be stacking those cups.

JJ SPAUN: Yeah, I would be getting a snake cup thing, whatever they do at baseball games. The snake with all the cups. Definitely enjoy the day out here.

Q. You arrived yesterday, started putting, practicing putting. Today you finish the practice round with putting. How does the recent champion of a PGA TOUR event practice putting so much?

JJ SPAUN: It's just something that has been kind of the weaker part of my game, so I think the more work I put in -- this season I would say. So the more work I put into my putting, not only does it help kind of confidence-wise that I know I prepared enough, it helps my feel, especially around a course like this with the greens and stuff.

You really want to hit a lot of the putts to develop feel. That's kind of my goal. Just getting a lot of practice in with the putter.

Q. And that kind of strategy you think, you're thinking that the putting will be a big factor here for you? Does that come from your experience here before?

JJ SPAUN: Yeah, I think I saw the interview Xander said avoiding three-putts is huge here. Working on your speed. Week in and week out 6 to 13 feet is kind of a crucial distance to hole putts, and if you're making putts from that distance you're saving shots or gaining shots.

So I'm just trying to do my best to get dialed in in that range and just spending a lot of time there.

Q. This is the second time you come here after winning a PGA TOUR event.

JJ SPAUN: Yeah.

Q. First time, you made it, this time, you knew you were going to play. What is that feeling? How is it different now?

JJ SPAUN: Yeah, it's nice. I don't feel like I need to -- especially being here already in the past, I don't have to cram and figure out the course. I've played to two years now and know what to expect.

But I didn't get too crazy Sunday night. I just knew I had a big week in front of me that I was always anticipating and looking forward to this week. So, yeah, I know the game is good. It's in good form now. Trying to use the momentum this week.

I think most importantly after the Sunday how long and grueling that was it to kind of conserve energy. That is why I spent more time putting and chipping versus hitting full shots, just to physically reserve some energy.

Q. Do you still have that feeling that we talk about regularly that you don't know why you're here but you're here?

JJ SPAUN: Yeah, totally. You know, it's always like pinch-me moments coming to Augusta and achieving the things I did last year and even last week. It's been a rough start to the year, but deep down inside I know I'm a really good player and I just got to believe that.

Stepping on property it's one thing to remind yourself that if you're here, like you're pretty special player.

Q. How does that apply to let's say Sunday now?

JJ SPAUN: Yeah, Sunday, you know, this is the Pinnacle of golf. To be in contention with nine holes, that's all I really want to have. You know, having some decent shows here but also relying on the U.S. Open and then also playing well last week, if I'm in the thick of it I'm going to believe that I can give my best and have a shot coming down 18.
