Quick Quotes
Q. How did you feel out there being back?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: Yeah, it was cool to be back. Lots of good stuff. Focused a lot on the short game and speed on the greens and some of those putts, so yeah, it was good to be back.
Q. What were your impressions of the new player services building?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: It's pretty incredible, the fact that they're able to do something like that in four or five months, however long they took to build it. It's pretty incredible. You've got everything you need in there.
Q. What were the shots when you were first here that you feel just so much more comfortable about after so many years of repetition?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: Well, when I first came out here, I guess I just cut everything. I couldn't really turn it right to left. There was a few tee shots that were pretty uncomfortable for me like No. 10, even 17, No. 6, some of those that are pretty straight ahead, but at least they have some trees kind of overlooking it, so you can't start the ball too far to the left.
There's a decent amount of them now, I almost have too easy of a time to turn it over, so it's easier to get it around the corner, but I felt like I was more consistent back then.
Q. Do you know how many eagles you've had here?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: No idea. I've had a few, but not super many, but I've had a few.
Q. What do you do with the crystal glasses?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: Just keep them in my house, just to flex on my buddies whenever they come over.
Q. Whenever they come over do you serve stuff in them?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: I have. It doesn't happen very often, but I have.
Q. Is there just a cabinet just for those?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: Yeah, I don't spend a whole lot of time in my kitchen, but they're in there somewhere.
Q. Are you ever scared of breaking them or your buddies breaking them?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: I would just have to make more eagles.
Q. If you were a patron and you had one day here, how would you spend it?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: That's a good question. I don't know, I'd try to walk with a group, but I guess that gets pretty difficult if it's a pretty notable group. I'd want to see multiple different spots.
I think 16 green is a pretty nice spot because you can see some on 6 green. You've got 15, so you're kind of in a good spot there. I'd hang around there for sure. And probably around Amen Corner a little bit if you can fit, watch 11 and obviously the approach shot on 12 and some tee shots on 13. But try to walk around.
Q. Looks like we have a pretty good Nordic team out there. How are you supporting each other? What are you doing?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: Yeah, we're going to try to get a practice round out there sometime this week. I still live in Oklahoma and I see Ethan when I'm home. Rasmus I obviously see on the road some and I know he's been spending some time in Stillwater the last few weeks.
Yeah, we're all kind of one close fraternity and keep in touch and it's cool to see so many guys out here, maybe not this week but on the PGA TOUR in general and see the guys doing well.
Q. We were saying the wind in Oklahoma is helpful but this is a different story here.
VIKTOR HOVLAND: Yeah, we have to work on that wind ball. If you can strike it in Oklahoma -- I do think that travels everywhere. If you can play well in those windy conditions, you're going to have a good chance to play well everywhere.
But this is a different beast in terms of just some of those short game shots you have. There are some places you just cannot miss. Certain pin locations you have to be so precise, and it's not necessarily just about hitting your spots. You've got to land it well and then be able to keep it in some areas. That's why this place is so tricky.
Q. Did you ever make the move to Jupiter?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: I've spent some time there, but not yet. Not yet.
Q. Still thinking you might?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: Well, I'm working on a house there, so yeah, it's almost ready.
Q. How is the course compared to earlier years?
VIKTOR HOVLAND: I'd say it's pretty similar. There's maybe some putts that I would say have been a little bit faster and maybe the greens have been a little bit firmer in the past few years, but it all depends. I think they got a little bit of rain yesterday, but it's in perfect shape.
They can tune it into whatever they want as the week goes on. I would say it's really nice.
