Quick Quotes
Q. Trevor coming out this week?
HARRIS ENGLISH: I'm not sure. I think Liam was trying to, but I don't think he's going to come out.
Q. Trevor been out here before?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah.
Q. How was the walk, the game?
HARRIS ENGLISH: It was great. Legs are tired, but that's what you get out here. Kind of same routine as last year, playing nine first couple days. Came a couple weeks ago and played 18 to get a look at it.
Just kind of managing yourself a little bit. Not getting too tired. It's easy to stay out here all day. It's like a playground for us. So you got to have a plan, stick to it, and manage your time as much as possible.
Q. All parts of your game must be on pointe to come away with a green jacket. Is there one more that others that need...
HARRIS ENGLISH: For sure. I think short game is a big key out here. Bunker play, striking your chips really because there is a big difference between chipping it to seven or eight feet and chipping it to three feet.
That's a big key. That's what I'm focusing on a lot leading up to this. Do some this afternoon, short game and putting. You got to get your speed down and make sure you're striking it well.
Q. How was the walk with Mason at Augusta National?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Oh, it's great. I've known Mason for a long time now. Was really excited obviously with his win at the U.S. Amateur. Been pulling on him for a long time and it's awesome to rub off on him I guess a little bit out here.
I think this is my seventh Masters, so just little stuff that I can help him with. I know his brain is spinning right now. I can't imagine what he's going through at 18 years old and playing in the Masters for the first time.
So just to have fun. Have a cool experience out here. He's getting to play with Rory first couple rounds. Talked about that some. Just told him take it all in but manage your time well. Don't get lost in everything. This is just another golf tournament.
He's played in a lot of golf tournaments and he's won a lot of big golf tournaments. Treat it as much like that as you possibly can.
Q. If you could have Tiger in front of you and give him words of encouragement, what would you tell him?
HARRIS ENGLISH: I mean, he's such a legend in this game, somebody I looked up to. Watching him win around this place in '97 is kind of the reason I started getting into golf. I know he's going to get through this. He has a big fight ahead of him. He's a fighter. That's what he does.
He's going to get through it and come out a better man and a better person. We hope to see him soon.
Q. How strange is it to not have Tiger or Phil around this place?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, very strange. First time since...
Q. '94.
HARRIS ENGLISH: That's wild. I wish both of them were here. We all do. We wish them well and hopefully we can get them back next year.
Q. Were the conversations with Mason more Georgia or tournament related?
HARRIS ENGLISH: A lot more tournament related today. We normally talk about Georgia football, everything Georgia sports. Today just give some insight of what I thought I would have liked to know when was 18 years old for the first time playing around here.
It changes a lot. So just the experience level out here, the more and more you play it the more you get used to the intricacies of this golf course. Trying to unload as much of that as possible but not overdo it. He plays a different game to me. He's an unbelievable player, U.S. Amateur champion. He can figure it out for himself.
Just little things that I can give him here and there to help him out.
Q. With a handful of Dawgs competing in this tournament what statement do you feel like that makes about Georgia?
HARRIS ENGLISH: It's huge. We get a lot of support out here. So many, go Dawgs we hear all week. Awesome to have that support. We need to have another Georgia guy put that green jacket on and I think everybody would love that.
Q. Put your football hat on a little bit. Last talked to you about the Jags they had the debacle in Houston and the run at the end. What was fun about being a fan the last seven or eight games?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Just how they picked themselves off the mat. They could have gone two different ways from that bad loss in Houston and they turned it around and took it the other way, started winning a bunch of games and were super competitive.
Had a chance to win the Super Bowl. That's what you want to do. It's awesome to see. I love the direction Liam, Gladstone, Boselli, obviously the ownership with Shad Kahn, they have the right seats on the bus for everybody and I'm super excited about where they're doing.
Win the stadium redo and playing in Orlando the next year it's going to be a little tough but they got a good team and they're going to keep trudging along.
Q. What is your history with Mason? When did you first meet him?
HARRIS ENGLISH: We grew up at the same club, Glen Arven. Remember him as little kid, eight, nine years old probably. Had a good crew down there. Got a lot of good young junior golfers down there that are very competitive.
Another one that's playing at Georgia this year, Mason coming to Georgia next year. It's a awesome to see. We had some good players around my era and it's nice to see the next wave come through. I don't know what is in the water down there, but they're doing some good things at Glen Arven.
Q. How crazy that you're seeing someone you knew as a child and now you're playing a practice rounds at Augusta?
HARRIS ENGLISH: It's awesome, it's awesome. I wish I had that experience when I was 18 years old. I wasn't near as good as Mason was at this time. It's awesome. There is going to be a lot of big things ahead for him and if he just keeps staying the path and put one foot in front of the other he's going to be playing in this tournament many, many times.
Q. Mentioned like to see a Bulldog put on a green jacket. What would winning this tournament mean to you?
HARRIS ENGLISH: It would be massive. I wouldn't say it's more pressure for us Georgia guys, but it would mean more. Russell growing up in Macon, me in South Georgia, Harman, in Savannah, Sepp in Valdosta, I mean, this tournament means more than the other majors. It would be unbelievable. Makes your whole career, putting that green jacket on.
