Augusta, Georgia, USA
Quick Quotes
Q. Can I ask you about the player services building down there? How do you compare that to other ones you've been in?
CAMERON SMITH: I mean, it's world class, just like what we've come to expect of Augusta National. We wouldn't have thought it would be anything different. It's pretty spectacular. The locker room is great. The dining room is great. The gym is great. There's no flaws. Everyone is really happy with it.
Q. What's your favorite part about it?
CAMERON SMITH: Favorite part about it? Probably the new locker room. The locker room upstairs here in the clubhouse is great, and it's got its history and stuff, but it wasn't very big. I think everyone is really pumped about the space that we've got. The lockers are awesome. They've got a charger in there for our TrackMans and stuff. Then the recovery facility downstairs is pretty special.
Q. Is that in the basement or is that on the first floor?
CAMERON SMITH: That's in the basement.
Q. So there's four floors?
CAMERON SMITH: I think it's three. I've only seen three. It could be four.
Q. The family dining, is that convenient for you so you can bring your whole family?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, absolutely. Again, just a little bit more space and a place where you can hang out with them. It kind of felt like it was a little bit maybe disjointed in years past with everything kind of being here and then our practice facility over there, so you were constantly going between the two, whereas everything is in one place. I spend a little bit more time with the family, and yeah, have lunch with them and stuff. It's nice.
Q. Would you normally hang out down there anyway?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I never had lunch or anything up here. I just had lunch with Sam in the caddie area. It was just always convenient.
Q. Let's talk about the struggles. What's going to be the struggles or the challenges this week?
CAMERON SMITH: I think the course is in great shape, and it's already pretty firm. It seems like the grass is really full. It's always in good condition here, but it seems like there's just a little bit more grass. It's a little bit fuller, and there's no rain in the forecast. They can really do whatever they want, I feel like. It will be firm and fast, I would assume.
Q. What things come to mind from your past that you can use here?
CAMERON SMITH: I think just be smart, and then you've obviously got to play good golf. I think it's a place where if you're playing really good, you can be super aggressive. If you're not playing so good, you have to play really smart and kind of get to the positions where you can get it up-and-down. It's the same for everyone, though. Everyone has got to do the same thing.
Q. I think in the past there was a LIV event right before this, right?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah.
Q. But there wasn't this year?
CAMERON SMITH: Yep.
Q. Is that better for your preparation?
CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I think so. It's always nice to have a week or two off before a really big week. You kind of feel fresh. No matter if the week before was a big event or a small event, you're still putting all your effort into it and trying to play well. It always takes something out of you. So it's nice to come in here fresh.
Q. When was the last event for y'all?
CAMERON SMITH: Two weeks ago.
