Augusta, Georgia, USA
Quick Quotes
Q. Can you just kind of recap on the week a little bit?
VANESSA BOROVILOS: Yeah, it's hard to not enjoy it because we're at Augusta. I remember teeing off on 10 yesterday for the practice round, and that hill is so much steeper than it looks on TV. You can see all the azaleas in the back and everything. It was a pretty cool week, to say the least.
Q. You mentioned it a little bit, but what was something that you learned during your practice round that maybe looks different from TV or helped you out during your round today?
VANESSA BOROVILOS: I would say -- I was going to say how steep the course is. That mainly helped my walk today. I wasn't expecting an easy walk, but in terms of the greens and everything, you've got to hit it on the right tiers. For example, No. 6, the par-3, when you tuck it back right, it's so easy for you to end up 60 feet left. It's kind of just having knowledge of those slopes. I think my caddie and I did a good job of that today. But yeah, I mean, it's Augusta. I'm still taking it in right now.
Q. You're no stranger to crowds. You've played at the Canadian Women's Open before. How does the first tee shot here and the emotions compare?
VANESSA BOROVILOS: Oh, I was actually shaking. I was laughing a bit beforehand, too. Had to lock in. But yeah, it's the first time I was nervous on a first tee shot. But it was cool. I had a couple of my friends here with my home course, and I think they made it a lot easier than it would have been.
Q. You had a chip-in on 12, an iconic hole at an iconic course. Can you walk us through that chip-in, club, yardage, and then just how it felt to hole out on that hole?
VANESSA BOROVILOS: Yeah, so hit it left, I was like 20 yards left or so and had to bump it into the hill to let it roll down. If you get it going too fast it's going to go in the water on the other side. I hit a 56-degree and kind of checked it into the hill and let it roll out. Once it went in I was waving to the crowd and there was no sound. I'm like, oh, and then I think they ended up realizing it after.
It was a funny moment because my caddie was saying, you need to wave to the crowd more, so I did, and I didn't get any reaction the first time.
Q. Than the previous best finish by a Canadian at this tournament was T14. You're currently sitting T6. Can you talk about what it means to represent Canada and represent Canada in such a strong way?
VANESSA BOROVILOS: Yeah, I think Canadian golf has grown a lot the last few years. I think mainly due to our coaches. I want to shout out Salimah. She was everywhere you could possibly imagine, and she really tries to help us with our games. I know Lauren and Aphrodite are both amazing players, too, and they're only going to get better from here. I think we have a group coming up the next few years, but we're all competing on the same stage. I don't think necessarily grouping it is what we think of when we're out here, but it's nice to show some Canadian colors.
