Quick Quotes
Q. Talk to me about your experience today. What was it like and the overall experience throughout this entire week?
PAULA MARTÍN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, this week is always very special. This was already my third time here, so it's nice coming just knowing what to expect, and being here is already a gift.
I think the experience for the past two years helped me a lot, just knowing the course a little better. I knew my game was feeling very good, and just went out there, enjoyed the round and I was able to shoot 3-under, which is my lowest round here, so very happy about it.
Q. You talked about having your best 3-under this year. Do the nerves settle down or are you always going to have nerves because you're at Augusta National?
PAULA MARTÍN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, I don't think it gets easier at all at Augusta National, but definitely some experience helps, even how I felt on the course. I remember the first year it was very different, just a little more confident, just knowing where the best spots are, the best leaves, and just trusting the game, trusting the shots. This course, I feel like it's a lot of just strategy and good angles, and there were some very tricky pin positions today that I've never played before, so yeah, just really trusting the numbers and just give it a good run.
Q. Talk to me, what went into the decision to wear the Sun Day Red for this event?
PAULA MARTÍN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, they're launching the women's line in about a month and they just offered the chance for us to wear it here as the first time. Of course for me, it's a huge honor to be wearing Tiger's brand here at Augusta National. Three of the current Stanford lineup are wearing this, and it's just great. It's very comfortable, and I think it looks great, so it's just a huge honor.
Q. Of course Stanford and Tiger have a long connection. What does Tiger mean for you as a golfer and as someone who's attending Stanford?
PAULA MARTÍN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, it's amazing, to say that I have even one thing in common with Tiger is already a huge compliment, and for us it's always someone that's very present in the university spirit and obviously in the golf program. It's an honor for me to go to Stanford and have that in common. As I said, it's something that both the men and women's team were very proud of, and hopefully I can meet him soon.
Q. Are you going to be rocking the brand after this event as well, either casually or whatever the case may be?
PAULA MARTÍN SAMPEDRO: I don't know. Maybe. I don't know yet. But hopefully, yeah.
Q. Many are saying that what happened this week here with Stanford is a lot product of a lot of things. What are those things according to you?
PAULA MARTÍN SAMPEDRO: Well, Stanford women's golf is in a great moment right now. Being a little part of it, for me, it's very inspiring, as well. It's just living with all my teammates and just going to practice every day, I feel super inspired by them. If it's not my week, I know it's going to be someone else's on the team, and I think it's great because I do think we make each other better in so many different ways.
Being here with so many other Stanford players here in the field, it's great, and just really looking forward to seeing what we're capable of doing in the future.
I think it's a product of so many different things. Even when we come to the program for the first time, I believe that we're already very good golfers and persons, of course, but it's our coaches, it's our families back home, it's everyone that has contributed even a little bit to our development growing up. I couldn't narrow it to two or three things, but just very grateful because definitely to me the Stanford women's golf program has lifted me in so many different ways.
