Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Jing Yan after her first round of the Aramco Championship. Wild scorecard from you today, especially the six birdies in a row. Take us through it, especially the long stretch for you.
JING YAN: Yeah, I started off really well. Two really short birdie putts, so two good approaches.
And then kind of like a little hiccup on a par-3, a short save that I didn't make. And then a double on 14 which is -- I think it's one the tougher holes on the course so a little disappointed at that point to kind of make an unforced errors with a double.
But then just try to like hit good shots, stay positive. I wasn't expecting to make six birdies. I was just trying to hit one good shot at a time and go one hole at a time; ended up working out pretty good.
So, yeah, it was a nice stretch to end.
Q. Is there anything in particular that was working well for you during that stretch?
JING YAN: I think I was hitting it really good today and playing with a bit of freedom, which is a nice change from the last few years, so, yeah.
Q. What's the mindset in that kind of stretch seeing birdie after birdie drop?
JING YAN: I think it was really nice because sometimes you're really trying to press and make a lot of birdies. In that stretch I was happy with make the birdies but almost wasn't aware of how many I was making.
So that's nice.
I know sometimes like you can make really like get up to, oh, my record is five or six and you start hitting the brakes, and I was trying not to do that.
Q. How much confidence does a round like this give you knowing you can score on this course and in bunches, especially with how tough it is?
JING YAN: Yeah, definitely gives me some confidence because it's a really, really nice track and the conditions can be really challenging depending on how you're playing and where you put things.
So, yeah, I really enjoy being back here so it's nice to be under par for sure.
Q. How different do you play this course match play versus stroke play?
JING YAN: I think match play you can be a lot more aggressive and really take some fun lines and like try and ram some putts in when you have to; stroke play you really have to consider the consequences of all your actions.
So, yeah, definitely you have to be maybe a little bit more guarded.
