Quick Quotes
Q. All right, here with Nelly Korda after her second round at the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass. Super solid round from you today. Take us through it.
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, overall hit had really good off the tee. Took advantage where I could. Rolled in a nice eagle, too.
Hit it nicely into the par-5s which obviously is an advantage out here. But overall, you know, just I would say I have no complaints, yeah.
Q. We've noticed a little bit of scoring variance in the morning waves, afternoon waves. Have you felt any variances after playing morning and afternoon now?
NELLY KORDA: It's so much harder in the afternoon. The greens get so much bumpier. Not to maybe the viewers' eyes, but when you're reading the putts from down low you can kind of see it.
Also I feel like they were a foot faster this afternoon than they were yesterday. So adjusting to that, and then also the bounce. It's just kind of like desert golf, you're expecting it but then more I think the thing that I think that people struggle with is on the greens because they do really get bumpy in the afternoon.
Q. Seeing a ton of scores, low scores on this course. What is it about this course that makes it so scorable?
NELLY KORDA: It's hot so the ball flies pretty far. You can have shorter clubs in, scoring clubs in.
And then in the morning the greens roll pretty pure, so I think it's -- you're just having a lot of short clubs in so it's scorable.
Q. Last one: You mentioned it to Golf Channel, going on I think three rounds with Hyo Joo back to last week; looking like a fourth one tomorrow.
NELLY KORDA: Yeah.
Q. How fun is it to have someone like that to bounce back and forth?
NELLY KORDA: Just getting sick of each other now. Yeah, she's playing such solid golf. At the end of the day that's something that motivates me to kind of want to stay with her at that level. We're just kind of going back and forth, so it's nice. At the end of the day we're competitors, but we are very friendly. I've always enjoyed playing with her. I'm always mesmerized by her putting.
It's always fun. You're never -- you can never perfect this craft, you can always learn. Watching someone putt the way that she does, I mean it's always so mesmerizing for me. You learn so much from every player that you kind of play with.
But going to be focused on myself and just at the halfway point. See how it goes.
Q. (Indiscernible.)
NELLY KORDA: I mean, I have left a couple shots out there at the end there. But, I'm playing really solid golf, and when I do make a mistake, I try not to let it faze me too much.
Playing in a group with Hyo Joo I think going on five days now soon, so she's been playing well, too. Energy has been good between us.
Q. How does the golf you're playing now compare to the way you played two years ago?
NELLY KORDA: Every year is so different. I can't even tell you similarities right now that I'm feeling what I felt two years ago. I just have a different feeling. Every year you're overcoming something, working on something different.
This year I'm really focusing on not trying to get laid off at the top and get my chest a little closer to the ground. Every year you're working on something different, so I don't think I can really compare.
I'm really happy where my game is at now.
Q. Are you thinking about those things when you're swinging in a tournament?
NELLY KORDA: I try not to. When do you miss-hit it you're in there, I think you kind of revert back to those, okay, is it laid off or am I standing a little too tall at address so that's why it's getting laid off. These are good triggers to think about because if you're not swinging your best you revert back to those.
No, just trying to dial in on the target and swing away.
Q. Travel buddy back out this week.
NELLY KORDA: Yeah.
Q. What's that been like and how is that helping your performance?
NELLY KORDA: It's been nice. We only played on Tuesday together. Unfortunately we were on opposite waves. Greyson is here, too, my mom is here. Got a little snuggle time with Greyson this morning which is so much fun.
Having your dinner buddy and having your comfort at every event was something that I took maybe for granted. It's been so nice.
