VALSPAR CHAMPIONSHIP

March 22, 2026

Matt Fitzpatrick

Palm Harbor, Florida, USA

Innisbrook Resort (Copperhead)

World Feed & Radio Interview

Q. That must feel absolutely exceptional after last week finishing runner-up at THE PLAYERS Championship. How good did that putt on the last feel?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Amazing. Amazing. Particularly, I felt frustrated all day that I had not made anything. Obviously to make something there on 15, and hole the long one there on 18 to in the end to secure the win was an amazing feeling.

Q. What was it like out there for you? It was a pretty congested leaderboard, at what point did you know that this could be yours?

MATT FITZPATRICK: I missed an opportunity on 1, and I thought, well, that's going to put me behind the 8-ball straight away. But I managed to obviously make one on 3.

By the time we got round to 7 or 8, like, you know, I was still in there. At that point I might have even been tied first. Which was kind of surprising, I thought I might be two or three off the pace still. So to be in that position I felt like I needed to obviously settle in on the back nine and try and hit some good golf shots and give myself as many chances as possible. I wouldn't say I did that ideally. I felt I hit a lot of good golf shots, just a little bit out here and there, but scrambled really well.

Q. Already a major winner, got the Masters championship three weeks away. How does this set you up for the rest of the season?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, it's great. Yeah, I feel like it's obviously a great start to the season now, and particularly in two weeks, because the major season is just around the corner. Two weeks off, just to kind of prepare myself for that and then get better.

Q. Can you talk about what you were able to accomplish here this week at the Valspar Championship.

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, it's amazing. To obviously come away with a win this week is really special, considering last week's performance as well. So just feel really good about my game coming into the week and to continue that this week was really a great feeling.

Q. How difficult was it to go bogey-free on the weekend and then cap it off with that amazing birdie here at 18 after the close miss at the par-3 17th?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, definitely. Definitely. Obviously frustration sort of most of the day. Just didn't feel like I had made enough putts, given the chances I had. Obviously made a couple of good par ones. But overall, to sort of give myself a chance on the last at least was the most important thing I could do. Then obviously did that and managed to take it.

Q. It had been a few years since the RBC Heritage. This one, how big, as you continue on this PGA TOUR season?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, this is great. Any win is fantastic. To me, just getting over the line is always difficult. It's so hard to win out here. Three wins now out here is something that, you know, I want obviously plenty more, and more and more big wins. So, yeah, to win this week is a big stepping stone for moving forward.
