Press Conference
J. SINNER/L. Tien
6-1, 6-2
THE MODERATOR: Well done. Pretty hot day. How pleased are you to get through so quickly?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, was a hot day, obviously. Very happy about today's performance. Yeah, felt like it helped a lot, you know, being up quite early breaks in the first and second set. So very happy.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. What was the big joke when you came in? Why are you laughing?
JANNIK SINNER: I don't know. It's something behind the scenes. All good (smiling).
Q. With whom?
JANNIK SINNER: My friends.
Q. Can I ask you about playing Sascha next?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, tough match. You know, we know each other very well, so try to, you know, being as consistent as possible. In the same time, him, for sure, he will change couple of things.
So I have to very careful. I watch couple of matches. He's playing great tennis. So trying to, yeah, to bring the best possible tennis I can. Depending on also when and what time we play, this change a little bit the matchup already.
You know, I'm looking forward to this. These are the matches I practice for. Semifinals of big tournaments, stages are getting bigger and bigger, so very happy to be here.
Q. Would you prefer playing him at night or during the day?
JANNIK SINNER: Oh, doesn't matter. Whenever they put me, I try to play the best possible tennis.
Q. I just wanted to know if you juggle during your warmup routine? Do you play with tennis balls? If yes, why do you do that?
JANNIK SINNER: If I juggle?
Q. Yeah, or play with tennis balls or something like that.
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I mean, we try to mix it up. I know how to juggle, but I do normal warmups, you know. Everywhere it's different. I saw some players, they do a lot of playing and juggling. Me, depends how I feel before the match.
Q. Two parts. One, how are you dealing with the heat? It's only going to get hotter as we continue to play. Second, your impression of Learner? He's a real up-and-comer right now.
JANNIK SINNER: No, I feel like he's improving a lot. Regardless of the result of today, I feel like he's improving. The groundstrokes are getting stronger.
Physically, he's improving a lot, you know. So he's gonna be a very tough, tough player in the future to beat, of course. He's shown this already against incredible players in the past and also in the present. So it's gonna be very interesting to see how he's gonna evolve.
About the heat, today I felt quite comfortable. I came here quite early, and the week before the tournament it was very hot, so that helps me or helped me for sure.
And now, yeah, I try to be ready for the next match.
Q. Is playing with Reilly the only time you ever feel short?
JANNIK SINNER: I won't say only time, but recently, yes, I would say, very short (smiling).
