Bryson DeChambeau

Republic of Singapore

Sentosa Golf Club

Crushers GC

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome to the media center Bryson DeChambeau, captain of Crushers GC. A 6-under 65, currently the solo lead at 10-under. Yesterday you spoke about the tricky conditions, mentioned that you were frustrated throughout the round, yet you still managed to come in tied for the lead. Today you've given yourself a little bit of separation from the pack. How would you assess your round 2?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, I played great today. I had a few more opportunities out there that didn't capitalize on, but played plenty well and gave myself plenty of opportunities to go low today. 3, it was nice making birdie on that hole. It's a tough hole. Besides 15 and then not making birdie on 18, I felt like it was pretty flawless.

Q. Tomorrow we're going to move up the start time again. Is there anything specifically heading into the weekend that you change or any focus for two more rounds?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: I just need to start the ball on my line a little better. I'm starting it too far left and overdrawing it sometimes, and that's cost me a few shots out here this week, and if I can clean that up, I feel like I'll be in a good spot. I'm putting well, and I just didn't read enough break into that last putt, and it is what it is.

Q. Bryson, you've got G-Bo back on the bag this week. Obviously had his cousin, I think, on your bag last week. Is it a comforting feeling just to have him there? You guys have obviously had great success together the last few years.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: No, it's comforting for sure. But MP last week, Michael was great. He did a fantastic job. I just played terrible. I did not have my golf swing and I found something a couple days ago, felt somewhat comfortable going into yesterday, and a little more comfortable today. Hopefully keep that train rolling and get back to a place where I feel just as confident as when I was a Greenbrier a couple years ago, and that's really my main focus. Like I said, chocolate milks and more drivers.

Q. Both your wins outside the States have come in Asia. Now obviously you're in position to add to that going into the weekend. Is there something about the region that you like? I don't know if you embrace the hot weather, or is there something there?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: I don't know. I mean, I won in Korea, won in Dubai, and I like hot weather, I don't like cold weather, but in Korea it was cold and rainy and at sea level. I've always struggled at sea level. I've always struggled with the golf ball curving too much because of how far I hit it. Next week will be nice because I think we go to elevation.

But I really don't know. I'm actually trying to play better in these conditions more often than not, and struggling to find myself playing at least somewhat okay, and this week I'm playing okay. I've got to evaluate exactly why I'm playing pretty solid, other than I feel like I'm a lot more strategic. Like, I'm aggressive, but it doesn't feel like I'm being overly aggressive. Like when I'm in a bad spot, I just try to go more towards the middle of the green, hit the green, two-putt, because I feel like my putting is in a good spot.

I feel like even though I'm going for flags and whatnot, I feel like I'm more conservative. I just have better starting lines this week, but it needs to be better.

Q. Is there something about that shot at 15 that just doesn't work for you?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Well, there's OB just right of the bunker and it can hit the cart path and go OB, and then there's water left. Both times I thought the wind was more off the left than not, and I hit good shots. It wasn't like I pulled it, and oh, that's going to go in the water. It was a good strike, the draw that I wanted, and it just didn't go where I wanted it to go.

Quite unfortunate and unlucky, but I've just got to get up there and be a little more confident.

Q. What will be the main focus to close this out?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Focus on my golf, what I can control. I know it's cliche, but you can't get too wrapped up with what everybody else is doing, and making sure I'm starting it on my lines the way I need to and rolling the putts on my lines like I need to. Barring that, I think I can give myself a good chance this weekend.

Q. I saw a video that you filmed on the way to Sentosa. You spoke about the sphere of dominance. Are you anywhere near that mindset right now, and that gets you in that zone?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, I feel like there are times when I see the golf ball coming out of the window that I want, and it's consistently doing that, and I feel so comfortable doing that every time, no matter the situation. That's when I get into that sphere -- the zone, as people call it.

I've seen glimpses of it this week. But it's just not fully there yet, and I hope to get even more into that bubble as time goes on. I really want to progress and lead up to playing well this weekend, playing well next weekend, and then get ready for the Masters. That's what I'm prepping my mind for.

Q. When you first turned pro, your game was more iron based, and this week you're great irons, great putting and then you chased speed for a while, when you were winning API and bombing it over the water, all those great stories. Is there a sweet spot that you're trying to find where you want to be long off the tee and you want to chase speed but you also want to focus on those other parts of your game that help you win?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, golf isn't about hitting it 400 yards. I proved that a couple years ago. You've got to have a good wedge game, good putting, good iron play. So there is a balance.

But I'm never not pursuing how to swing it faster or have it come off the face faster and then learn how to control it. That's kind of my goal. I always go to how hard can I swing it, and then how do a back off of that. It's just my mentality. So I'll forever be pursuing a little bit of speed as time goes on.

This golf course, you can't swing it hard out here. You can hit it far, but you have to control your ball more than you can kind of just bomb it and let it go wherever. Fairways are tight.

I'll forever be chasing speed. Hopefully the technology can catch up with where our swing speeds are going because right now, any minor mis-hit can make the ball go quite a bit off line. That's why I've got what I'm using now, then working on some stuff, as well, to see if there's any improvements to be made from what I have now, and we'll see where the future takes us.

I'm excited to unveil some special stuff here soon. I've been talking about it for a while, but we just don't have anything that's as good as it needs to be yet.
