BNP PARIBAS OPEN

March 7, 2026

Mirra Andreeva

Press Conference

M. ANDREEVA/S. Sierra

6-0, 6-0

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. Pretty quick match, straightforward. Just tell us your thoughts on how you played today.

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, I feel like I was playing well today. Also, the conditions were pretty tricky. The wind was changing directions every time. So I'm pretty happy with how I adjusted my game to these conditions, and very happy to win the match and be back to this place.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. A question about today's match. What else you like to do in your free time, like what kind of sport, like skiing or anything else other than professional tennis? Or pickleball? What do you think about pickleball?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I think I have tried pickleball only once, like at exhibition event I had with the hotel. I don't even remember where.

But other than that, I never played pickleball. I prefer table tennis. Me and Conchita, we fight. We have some really huge matches. Here in the players' lounge, they have Ping-Pong tables. Yeah, we have great matchups with her.

But other than that, I don't really do much sports, because when I practice a lot on the tennis courts, I don't really want to do sports anymore. I just want to lay down on the couch and watch a TV series and eat and sleep. So that's all I do.

Q. Play with the dog?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Exactly, playing with the puppy as well.

Q. How different and challenging have you found it from when you were really young and people didn't know so much about you to becoming a 1000 champion and being one of the best players in the world and people expecting a lot from you? How tough has that been?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, of course when you just come to the tour, no one really knows a lot of things, a lot of stuff about you. So you kind of can win a lot of matches by surprise when no one really knows what to expect from a new player.

So I feel like that's how I also won a couple of matches when I was coming to the tour, because, you know, people just didn't know me. They didn't know who I was. I was just, you know, really focused on how to play and what to do on the court. I feel like that's how you can win a lot of matches when you just come to the tour.

But then after, when you play more matches against top players, they also start to know you as a player, as a person, and then, of course, that's when it gets more difficult, because you cannot really take anyone by surprise as much anymore, because obviously you know players' game style and you know how a certain player would play. That's when it gets a little tricky.

But when I thought about it, I was just telling myself to stick to my game and do whatever I was doing before and not to change anything. It's up to them if they want to change anything in their game plan or not.

Q. You said on court you haven't had your driver's license yet, but how would you rate your ability as a driver? Have you thought about what you might get for your first car?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, honestly, I would rate myself like a solid 7. I have been practicing with my dad a little bit, so, I mean, I don't want to say that I'm pretty good, but I know how to drive. I know how to turn the steering wheel, I know how to, you know, put gas and brake, as well.

So as I said on on-court interview, I'm going to be able to get from point A to point B. Somehow I'm gonna get there, that's for sure.

But as a first car, I haven't really thought about it. I really like Bentley, so maybe. I just need to save up some money for that first.

Q. Amanda said yesterday that she's the kind of player when the conditions are variable, she's playing new people. She enjoys the challenge, the puzzle, figuring out the pieces. Do you enjoy that mental part of the work, adjusting during the match, or do you prefer to go in knowing exactly what to expect and what to execute?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, of course it's very nice to go to the match and just, you know, know your opponent, and I don't know, probably expect how they gonna play against you.

But when you play against someone you have never played before and you don't have a lot of information, it also gets a little trickier, because you really don't know what the player would do against you.

So, you know, today I also didn't know my opponent very much. I have never played against her. So when I came on court, I was, you know, first couple of games, I was just trying to figure out what her game style is. Then after, I just kind of, you know, I understood what she might do on the court, and from there, I just started playing to just not let her do whatever she wants to do on the court.

Q. Is that part fun for you, figuring her out, figuring out how to dismantle, or you want to go right for...

MIRRA ANDREEVA: I wouldn't say it's fun. I would say it's, for me, it was pretty stressful. I was pretty nervous, because obviously I don't know what she's gonna do. It's fun when you realize what she's gonna do and it all goes in your favor. Then I have fun.

If I don't know what she's gonna do and then I struggle, that's not really fun, but you still have to overcome this, obviously, and try to find your way.

Q. I wanted to ask you how you're approaching doubles at this tournament and just in the season. You won a doubles match against a really tough team yesterday. Are you using it as a test for the conditions to figure out how the courts are playing before your first singles match or are you really going for the doubles title?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, of course it was very nice to get a doubles match before my singles match to just, you know, get used to the rhythm, get used to the conditions. Again, when I'm on the court playing doubles, it's not like I'm going to just have fun and it doesn't matter what's gonna happen. I go on the court, I always want to win.

So when we play doubles, obviously, for me, it's just a little easier to combine those things, have fun, and at the same time, you know, I also want to win. And with Vicky, it was so much fun. You know, it's just nice to have someone to just, you know, talk about all those things that you don't really talk about a lot with players.

Yeah, it's just nice to share a court with her, and at the end -- I mean, throughout the whole match, we were very competitive, but at the end when we were very close, we both said, you know, we're not getting back. We're just going to go for it until the end. I'm just very happy that we managed to close the super-tiebreak, because it was pretty close.

Yeah, I just approach doubles in both ways, fun but also very competitive.

Q. Your relationship with Conchita and you making a lot of jokes about her on the court, does she ever get you back in some way or is it pretty one-sided?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I feel like with media, I get away with a lot. But she does get me back when you guys are not around and when there are no cameras. She gets her revenge, for sure, just know that.

But I just kind of use the right time to joke around when I know that cameras are filming and when I know that there are a lot of people watching. But, yeah, she never is going to miss the opportunity to get me back. So she does, she does.
